ADOLESCENCE (2025): The Things I Liked…

It was clear post-trailer viewing that Adolescence, the latest crime/drama from Ashley Walters and Stephen Graham, would be very moving. I did not realise just how powerful and affecting it would be.

Written, structured and filmed smartly and engagingly, the four-episode story centres on a 13-year-old teenager accused of murdering his schoolmate and some of the key individuals impacted by his alleged actions.

As you can imagine – thanks to the talented performers, I cried, especially at the end. My hand may have even reached out at the screen at the very end, for reasons that will be clear once you watch the series.

If it was not already widely known that parenting is never easy, this story is quite a reminder. Adolescence, the phase in development, is also challenging for several reasons, particularly in modern times.

This one is emotional but interesting and worthy. So, if you’re curious enough, watch Adolescence. It’s very British and arguably ‘too real’, which is a high compliment for the filmmakers involved.

Adolescence is co-written by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, while Philip Barantini directs.

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Adolescence (2025).

That unbelievable situation when your 13-year-old son gets arrested for murdering a schoolmate. This is the story of Adolescence; Ashley Walters, Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Faye Marsay’s latest crime/drama mini-series.

Undoubtedly, one of the worst nightmares for all parents doing their best to raise a ‘good child’. I’m excited to see the young actor playing Graham’s son do an incredible job. I have no doubt that Walters and Graham will also be be fantastic.

To think that acting found Graham by accident when he accompanied a friend to an audition for a Guy Richie movie. When the friend finished auditioning, Graham was invited to audition. He told them he wasn’t an actor. But, eventually, they convinced him to try. Guess who got offered the part? When Stephen protested because he didn’t want to take a job from his friend, Ritchie’s response was something to the effect of ‘That’s not my problem’. Classic.

Are you curious about this tragic and seemingly well-titled drama?

Co-written by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, while Philip Barantini directs; Christine Tremarco, Amelie Pease, Noah Mason, Erin Doherty, Jo Hartley, Mark Stanley and Claudius Peters also star.

Adolescence Release Dates: March 12th, 2025 (UK & US)…

BLITZ (2024): New Trailer Starring Saoirse Ronan, Elliott Heffernan, Stephen Graham, Kathy Burke…

Blitz (2024), Saoirse Ronan, Elliott Heffernan, Apple TV+

From Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen, Blitz is a new historical drama/action film about a group of Londoners during the events of the British capital bombing in World War II.

Saoirse Ronan, Elliott Heffernan, Stephen Graham, Benjamin Clémentine, Harris Dickinson and Kathy Burke are among the key cast.

War films aren’t my go-to. Yet, because of the cinematography, acting talent, the eventual reunion (let’s hope), and, because it’s Steve McQueen, I can’t quite ignore this.

May the reunion be as satisfying as my unquenchable ‘happy-ending thirst’ demands. Who’s with me?

John Mackay, Paul Weller and Erin Kellyman also star.

Blitz Release Dates: November 22nd, 2024 (US &UK)…

VENOM – THE LAST DANCE (2024): New Trailer Starring Tom Hardy, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Graham, Chiwetel Ejiofor…

Venom – The Last Dance is the final part of the Venom/Eddie Brock story.

Starriing Tom Hardy, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Graham, Juno Temple Chiwetel Ejiofor – and directed by Kelly Marcel; the duo are on the run as they’re hunted by both of their worlds.

This trailer has me wanting to see how Eddie Brock’s story gets wrapped up. I feel bad for him right now because he looks so worn down. How could one not be when an otherworldly and seemingly uncontrollable parasite lives within, and fully overpowers you?

I say all the above as someone who has largely forgotten the details of Venom‘s origin story. Still, I vote to give back Edie’s freedom and full control over his mind and body.

Are you intrigued enough to watch and see how Edie and Venom fair?

Cristo Fernández, Clark Backo, Ivo Nandi, Peggy Lu and Otis Winston also star.

Venom – The Last Dance Release Dates: October 25th, 2024 (US & UK)…

FUNNY COW (2017): New Trailer Starring Maxine Peake, Christine Bottomley, Stephen Graham…

Funny Cow (2017), Maxine Peake

In director Adrian Shergold’s Funny Cow, Maxine Peake stars as a female comedian standing up to a violent husband and the sexist Northern England club circuit.

Also starring Christine Bottomley and Stephen Graham, Shergold promises a film about the power of laughter and how to transform pain into humour.

I’m in for the funny, the drama and the story of a woman powering through towards her vision.

Paddy Considine, Alun Armstrong, Tony Pitts and Hannah Walters also star.

Funny Cow Release Dates: April 20th, 2018 (UK)…
