BURN (2019): The Thing I Liked…

Melinda, a desperately lonely female gas station attendant and her encounter with a man who tries to rob her store is the story of the Mike Gan directed thriller, Burn.

Starring Suki Waterhouse, Josh Hutcherson and Tilda Cobham-Hervey (Melinda), at first I paid very close attention – thanks mainly to Cobham-Hervey’s performance. Unfortunately, my interest did start to wane because of the not quite arresting conversation between Melinda and Josh Hutcherson’s robber character once he was tied up. This is sadly the point at which I resigned to the idea of Burn as quite a disappointing movie but still I chose to continue.

The story didn’t improve with time but what I was very certain about is that the actors performed well. Particularly Cobham-Hervey in her role as the desperately lonely Melinda. It’s just unfortunate that I didn’t like the story’s execution, or fully believe everything that happened towards the end.

Considering all the desperate madness that Melinda filled her day with, I was left wishing that hopefully, there really aren’t too many people as lonely as her.

Watch it but only if you absolutely must.

From writer / director Mike Gan, Burn is a new thriller about a lonely female gas station attendant’s encounter with a desperate man who tries to rob the store…

Key cast includes Suki Waterhouse, Harry Shum Jr., Josh Hutcherson, Tilda Cobham-Hervey…

Editing-wise, I do wish that this trailer had ended just before the words ‘I burn myself all the time. it’s not a bad thing‘ were uttered. Nevertheless, I’m interested; mostly in Cobham-Hervey’s depiction of ‘mentally unstable.’

Shiloh Fernandez, James Devoti, Wayne Pyle, John D. Hickman and Rob Figueroa also star .

Burn Release Dates: August 23rd, 2019 (US)…

JONATHAN (2018): New Trailer From Ansel Elgort, Patricia Clarkson, Matt Bomer, Suki Waterhouse…

Ansel Elgort, Patricia Clarkson, Matt Bomer and Suki Waterhouse are the stars of new drama / sci-fi Jonathan.

Directed by Bill Oliver, the story follows Jonathan who leaves the office everyday at noon. He gets home and goes to sleep. Each morning when Jonathan wakes up, there’s a breakfast prepared for him along with a video telling him about the second part of his day…

I rather enjoyed the mysterious nature of the above synopsis. Upon seeing the trailer, I’m definitely quite intrigued and find myself thinking of cloning as a key theme. It could also be interesting if I were wrong – especially since I do enjoy a well executed story surprise.

Douglas Hodge, Souleymane Sy Savane, Ramses Torres and Jeff Kim also star.

Jonathan Release Dates: November 16th, 2018 (US)…

LOVE, ROSIE (2014): In Love, Timing Is Everything

Love, Rosie: a story about two people who’ve been friends for a very long time and share feelings for each other but somehow they never seem to get it together.

It’s the kind of predicament where you find yourself thinking, if only one of them spoke honestly, just once about what was in their heart, things would be very different.

But, sometimes everything is supposed to be just as it is at that time. Of course this is not at all comforting when you’re in the middle of it all and timing is not on your side.

This is one of those love stories that isn’t too typical of the romantic comedy genre and the onscreen chemistry between Sam Claflin and Lily Collins, the leads of Director Christian Ditter’s movie is really quite something.

Watch it for the reasons above, and wonder how Lily Collins got that British accent just right. There’s also a a beautiful father/ daughter relationship to enjoy.

Happy Love Rosie 🙂
