It’s been ages since my last video, but I’m happy to be back with My Top 5 Desert Island Movies. Technically, these are the movies I’d take with me if I were to be stranded on a desert Island indefinitely. In other words, these are some of my favourite movies.
So many to mention, so little time… so, I chose 5 (ish!)
One of the biggest irritants for film fans these days is the increase in the number of movie trailers that give away more of a story than is necessary. As a result, I know a handful of people who have opted out of watching trailers altogether.
I can’t even, not for a second entertain quitting trailers. And so adapt, I have. Not by embracing terrible trailers that ruin what could have been great movies mind you. But by choosing how many of the – I don’t know, 3 to 20 variations of a trailer that movie studios are committed to pushing these days. Put simply, I watch no more than two trailers max for one movie.
Can you even imagine not watching trailers anymore? Such a sad thought, right?
Horror movies aren’t my favourite genre because I enjoy peaceful nights of sleep. And, perhaps, even more importantly, ‘Being scared out of my mind isn’t fun for me’. Give me a good suspenseful thriller any day. I can take those, most of the time. But a horror movie that’s likely going to rob me of a good nights rest? ‘No, thank you!‘
There is one exception to my rule about scary movies. Slasher horror classics such as Scream (1996)and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), I tend to find those more amusing than scary. It’s, therefore, mostly the psychological/religious horrors that I can’t stand. Those will have me up at night for all the wrong reasons.
Fast forward to the present day, where I find myself interested in dipping my toes back into the scary movie pool. A journey that starts with me watching IT (1990), a film I never saw as a child. No wonder I’m not at all scared of clowns, even when they have large, sharp teeth.
One thing I’m certainly not going to do is watch the movie that put me off horror movies in the first place, The Omen (1976). I couldn’t sleep for a whole week after watching that at twelve years old.
The50 Facts About Me videos are one of my favourites on YouTube. So, naturally it was only a matter of time before I was brave enough to unleash my particular brand of peculiar to share with you, my lovely readers! I hope you enjoy my fourth ever YouTube video (The first one is crazy awkward!).
