The Mountain Between Us is a new Hany Abu-Assad-directed drama/adventure about two strangers stranded after a tragic plane crash.

Starring Kate Winslet, Idris Elba, Beau Bridges and Dermot Mulroney, the strangers are faced with the extreme conditions of a remote snow-covered mountain, and must find a way to survive knowing that help isn’t coming.

As a big fan of ‘acting queen’ Kate Winslet and the wonderful talents of Idris Elba, I can’t wait to see this; especially considering how very promising it looks in this trailer.

I confess that my heart is pretty much aching already – not because I know how the movie ends, I have no idea – but because of all the very big and important plans both characters had at their intended destinations. It’s just a shame that they only had access to that rickety-looking mode of transportation.

Beau Bridges, Lucia Walters, Waleed Zuaiter, Marci T. House and  Lee Majdoub also star.

Stephen Frears, director of The Queen (2006), which starred Helen Mirren and Michael Sheen has a new movie based on another British monarch. One who’s played by Judi Dench.

Also starring Olivia Williams, Ali Fazal, Eddie Izzard, Michael Gambon and Tim Pigott-Smith, the story of Victoria & Abdul focuses on Queen Victoria’s unlikely friendship with a young Indian clerk named Abdul Karim.

Dame Judi Dench and the promising humour are all the reason I need to watch.

There is also my interest in seeing an ageing female monarch take charge of herself and others with aplomb.

Logan Lucky (2017), Channing Tatum

Director Steven Soderbergh’s new movie is a comedy starring Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig, Adam Driver and Hilary Swank –  to name just a few. The story centres around two brothers and their attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina.

Such a pleasant surprise to see Craig’s face in this trailer. I imagine that the impressive cast list for this film was probably ready to do everything in their power to secure a chance to work with Soderbergh. You know, just in case he decides to retire from films one more time, right after this one.

Katie Holmes, Riley Keough, Katherine Waterston, Sebastian Stan, Katie Holmes, David Denman, and Jack Quaid make up some of the aforementioned impressive stars.

You Were Never Really Here (2017), Joaquin Phoenix

In You Were Never Really Here, Joaquin Phoenix plays a war veteran whose attempt to save a young girl from a sex trafficking ring goes horribly wrong.

Directed by Lynne Ramsay; Alessandro Nivola and Ekaterina Samsonov also star.

The sound/music in the first 45 seconds was quite challenging for my delicate ears; nevertheless, I’m interested in this movie.

Also, Phoenix is great, and the film’s mood reminds me of one of my favourite Tom Hardy movies, Locke (2013). And the synopsis brings to mind The Equalizer (2014), except things probably didn’t go quite as terribly for Denzel Washington’s character.

From writer/director Peter Landesman, The Silent Man (New Title – Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House) stars Liam Neeson, Diane Lane, Kate Walsh and Michael C. Hall.

It’s the true story of Mark Felt, a man who, under the name ‘Deep Throat,’ helped journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein uncover the Watergate scandal in 1974.

Before this trailer, I knew nothing about The Silent Man and the people/incidents it’s based on.

After Neeson’s engaging monologue, I sure hope that the film’s dialogue will be great. Neeson’s words actually took me back to how much I loved the dinner table scene in the first teaser trailer for Black Mass (2015). The memories!

Ike Barinholtz, Marton Csokas, Maika Monroe, Tony Goldwyn and Josh Lucas also star.
