Trap (2024), Josh Hartnett, Warner Bros. Pictures

TRAP (2024): An Unexpected Roller Coaster Of Emotions While Watching The New M. Night Shyamalan Trailer, Starring Josh Hartnett, Hayley Mills…

The latest crime/horror/mystery starring Josh Hartnett and Hayley Mills is a movie with a possibly very promising trailer.

I saw this trailer within 10 minutes of its release several days ago. At first, I wasn’t sure where it was going, but then I started to get excited because it was looking pleasingly different; which is always welcome. Particularly for myself and others who have seen plenty of movies and a plethora of premise types many times before.

Sadly, however, something extremely disappointing happened at exactly two minutes and fifteen seconds into the trailer; specifically for me, the revelation of who the director is.

I would truly love nothing more than to be wrong about the extent to which I’m likely to enjoy this movie, but I’ve been disappointed too many times. As such, I’ll probably wait to see what the first reviews say before investing time.

What are your thoughts about M. Night Shyamalan’s latest? Perhaps you’re more hopeful than I am after watching the above trailer.

Hayley Mills, Marnie McPhail, Vanessa Smythe, Ariel Donoghue, Malik Jubal, Jonathan Langdon and Peter D’Souza also star.

Trap Release Dates: August 9th, 2024 (UK)…

Happy Film Loving,

G

  1. Gia, I read someone else’s review of this last week and he said MNS’ daughter is the one performing in the concert, which is a neat promo for a relative. Like you, I’m extremely disappointed to see the reveal in the trailer. Why!?!? One of the main charms of a thriller is waiting for the big reveal. Bad marketing choice, imo, to take that away from it. I’m ambivalent about seeing it now, even though I like Josh Hartnett.

    1. Agreed about featuring his daughter, very smart indeed.

Here’s what’s funny, I realised that we are talking about ‘different reveals,’ both of which are very valid. Firstly of all, the plot line reveal is terrible. However, I think I’ve kind of given in to the practice. It’s just what they do now. As much as we hate it, only the auteurs like Christopher Nolan care to go through the effort of doing a good job of teasing audiences with a trailer.

      1. OK what is the reveal you’re talking about? If it is past 20 seconds in the trailer don’t tell me as I quit watching it when “my” reveal was revealed. Oh, nevermind 😉 lol

    2. The reveal I was referring to is actually, sadly the name of the director. I was starting to love the trailer and because M. Night’s recent films haven’t been very good, it was such an unfortunate let-down to see that he’s the writer/director. Even more so because i was excited to see Hartnett in a leading role again. I hope to be wrong and I want Trap to be great. I just don’t know if it will be, sadly.

      1. Ah! I never would have guessed that was the reveal you were looking at. Not that familiar with his work (that I know of!) Hope it turns out better than his history suggests it will.

      2. I see that now. I may have to edit the post slightly because it certainly could be clearer. MNS’s last film that didn’t work even though the trailer was promising is OLD (2021) and arguably KNOCK AT THE CABIN (2023).

I hope that you, myself and everyone else find ourselves very pleasantly surprised when the movie is released.

  2. I certainly understand the reluctance to get invested in a M. Night film. It probably has worked out that over his career I’ve liked a third of his films. Mrs. Chess and I skipped seeing Old because we figured that would easily be one of his misfires, but we saw Knock At The Cabin and liked it. On this one, I’m trying to figure out how this premise stretches out to be a full-length feature, and maybe the best is yet to come outside of what we’ve seen from this trailer. Right now, I’m on the fence as far as seeing this one…but I am keeping an open mind. Even though I’ve liked less of his films than more, I do keep my eye on what he produces.

    1. Your instincts about Old were certainly correct! I hope that for all our sakes, this one is a good one.

I’ll also try to stop myself from trying to figure out how they’ll fill the time because I’d hate for my overthinking to spoil what could hopefully be a perfectly good story. 🤞🤞

  3. M. Night Shyamalan is always fun to keeping up with. I think Trap will be a good watch no matter how it turns out. Of course I’m not sure why they gave away the twist in the trailer.
