Read my spoiler-free movie review of Nightbitch (2024).

Directed by Marielle Heller; Nightbitch is a new comedy/drama/horror film starring Amy Adams.

With a supporting cast that includes Scoot McNairy and Zoë Chao, Adams plays a woman whose domesticity takes a surreal turn after pausing her career to become a full-time mother.

Erm… So, this is very unexpected.

I’m down for the humour and to see Adams’s ‘mother’ character let the rage fly. Also, the fact that where her character’s name would usually go on IMDb, it simply says ‘mother,’ seems like a statement in itself.

Fingers crossed this leans towards the quirky/clever/funny side rather than a tad too weird to keep watching. What do you think?

Mary Holland, Jessica Harper, Kerry O’Malley, Ella Thomas, Laura Meadows, Roslyn Gentle, Michaela Baham, Stacey Swift and Adrienne Rose White also star.

Nightbitch Release Dates: December 6th, 2024 (US)…

Happy Film Loving,

G

  1. I had a very similar reaction. I’m not familiar with the source material, so I went from interesting to strange to funny and back to weird. 😀

Also, I have not seen Amy Adams in a while and I kept asking myself how much of this is her getting older and how much is makeup. As I get older, seeing actors (I’ve been watching for decades) getting older is a strange experience. Part of me wants them to stay forever young, which they do if I keep watching the same old movies. 😀

The other part of me feels off-putted when some of them opt for plastic surgery or have some facial work done (a recent example is Kristen Bell who I like and feel it was not necessary in this trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn2PsXD8m4A).

    1. Watching their old stuff is one way to keep them young. It’s probably the case that any issue we have with them getting older is more about having trouble coming to terms with our own mortality.

As for the plastic surgeries, it only really bothers me when a procedure means that their face barely moves when they’re supposed to be expressive. Other times it can be jarring. But it must be tough having to age on the big screen.

      1. Yeah as it depends on the person (and their genes). Some age very gracefully and others don’t. Pressure is huge (on women in Hollywood especially), so I do understand it’s not easy to hold your ground if you want to keep working.

      1. I rewatched this a couple of times and it feels like this is a fantastic makeup and costume work to make her look as plain as possible like the most mundane mom.
