Mank is the latest drama/biography from Gone Girl (2014) director David Fincher.

Starring Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins and Tuppence Middleton; Fincher’s film is the story of screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz; particularly his tumultuous development of Orson Welles’ iconic masterpiece Citizen Kane (1941).

Anyone else reminded of Oldman’s great work as a drunk in Friends, season 7 episodes 23 and 24?

This should be interesting because the cast is great, the cinematography looks promising, even with the absence of colour. An absence I hope not to feel too greatly .

Lastly, perhaps I’ll finally get to watch Citizen Kane (1941), probably best to do that before this movie is released.

Tom Burke, Tom Pelphrey, Charles Dance, Leven Rambin, Arliss Howard, Joseph Cross, Elvy, Jamie McShane, Toby Leonard Moore, Sam Troughton and Adam Shapiro also star.

From director Julie Taymor, The Glorias is a new biography that covers the story of feminist icon Gloria Steinem’s itinerant childhood’s influence on her life. Especially as a writer, activist and organiser for women’s rights worldwide.

Key cast includes Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander, Janelle Monáe and Bette Midler.

I’m curious about this one because it’s always great to learn about humans who helped change the world in positive ways. It also helps that the cast is good.

Lulu Wilson, Timothy Hutton, Mo Brings Plenty, Myles Evans, Lorraine Toussaint, Kimberly Guerrero, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, David Shae and Allie McCulloch also star.

Judas and the Black Messiah tells the story of Fred Hampton, Chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party, and his fateful betrayal by FBI informant William O’Neal.

Co-directed by Ryan Coogler and Shaka King, this very promising movie stars Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield and Jesse Plemons.

It’s official, this is my favourite week of movie trailer releases in 2020. First we had Ratched (2020) a couple of days ago and now this. I’ve already watched this trailer countless times and I cannot wait to see what looks like a superb performance from Kaluuya and Stanfield. Two brilliant actors I last saw together in Jordan Peele’s massive hit, Get Out (2017).

This is the kind of movie that I imagine will be really great to see in a movie theatre.

Martin Sheen, Ashton Sanders, Lil Rel Howery, Algee Smith, Jermaine Fowler, Robert Longstreet, Dominique Fishback, Nick Fink and Darrell Britt-Gibson also star.

Starring Ethan Hawke and Eve Hewson, visionary inventor Nikola Tesla is the subject of Tesla, director Michael Almereyda’s new drama/biography. Particularly Tesla’s interactions with Thomas Edison, J.P. Morgan’s daughter Anne, and Tesla’s breakthroughs in transmitting electrical power and light.

Additional key cast includes Kyle MacLachlan, Hanna Gross and Josh Hamilton.

Ethan Hawke, this cool trailer edit and the greatness of Tesla himself are the reason I’m interested. It also helps that Almereyda’s film looks like no biography I’ve ever seen.

Lois Smith, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Jim Gaffigan, Lucy Walters, James Urbaniak, Ian Lithgow, Donnie Keshawarz and Janelle Feigley also star.

The latest trailer for Respect, a Liesl Tommy-directed Aretha Franklin biography starring Jennifer Hudson, Marlon Wayans and Forest Whitaker, has finally arrived.

Besides the music and Hudson’s acting talents, I’m most looking forward to watching Franklin coming into her power.

Also, hopefully the way her most iconic song ‘Respect’ came to to be is captured in a way that’s as moving as what Rocketman (2019) did for my favourite Elton John single,’Your Song.’

Lodric D. Collins, Tituss Burgess, Victoria Paige Watkins, Joshua Mikel, Marc Maron, Jamaal Burcher and Saycon Sengbloh also star.
