I confess that I am one of those people who watched the Despicable Me movies purely for the Minions. Imagine my joy at the news that a Minion movie was on the way, for summer 2015. Aaaaaaaahhhh!

Something tells me that I’m not the only grown-up who exhibits signs of pure uncontrollable glee at the sight of the beloved Minions. Seriously, who can possibly resist the most adorable, yellow, happiness-inducing and banana-loving beauties?

Here’s the latest trailer.

Bring on the yellow gorgeousness!

KINGSMAN – THE SECRET SERVICE (2014): Now I’ll Definitely See It…

I was only mildly intrigued before, but the great new Super Bowl trailer for director Matthew Vaughn’s Kingman – The Secret Service has convinced me to watch the film.

It does help that Kingsman is written by Jane Goldman, whose other writing credits include Kick-Ass (2010) and X-Men First Class (2011).

As excited as I am, so far, there’s just  one thing that doesn’t sit well with me about this trailer – and that is the claim by Alex Zane of the UK’s Sun newspaper, that Kingman – The Secret Service  is More Badass Than Bond.’

It’s incredibly hard for me to believe that there’s any other British spy movie more badass than Daniel Craig’s James Bond. Impossible, quite frankly. I shan’t entertain such an assertion. But I will watch this film, because it looks fantastic.

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY (2013): Inspiration For Living

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013), Ben Stiller
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013), Ben Stiller

Walter Mitty is a man who has numerous vivid daydreams about everything he wishes he could be at a given moment but never is.

Directed by funny man, Ben Stiller, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty takes you along on a journey that leads to a point where Walter, as the movie poster suggests, stops dreaming and starts living.

This is definitely an entertaining watch and becomes most interesting and fun from the moment Walter meets the bearded and intoxicated giant (one of my favourite characters). It makes sense that the film becomes especially engaging at this point, because it’s soon after Walter decides to be adventurous, brave, and start living.

For those who realise/feel like they haven’t done much that’s considered noteworthy and want to change that, Stiller’s movie is great inspiration for formulating a plan and taking action.

One of my own dreams was to go to New York. I’d been forever curious for many years. So, finally making that particular wish come true was truly super.

Watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty for the fun adventure with a handful of entertaining characters. It’s almost a guarantee that you’ll find yourself inspired.

THE INTERVIEW (2014): When It’s Meant To Be…

Despite the hackers, I’ve watched Seth Rogen and James Franco’s The Interview and had a great time. I particularly loved the scenes with Kim Jong-un (Randall Park) and his Korean accent.

Fans of the lead actors (Rogen and Franco’s) long-standing movie bromance are bound to be very happy indeed. Especially if they accept that Franco’s character is really supposed to be that dim. Otherwise, like myself at first, Franco’s Dave Skylark could seem more than a tad over the top.

Rogen, Franco, Park, Diana Bang and Lizzy Caplan all play their parts beautifully – along with some welcome surprise appearances from Franco and Rogen’s famous friends.

Having already paid the film my full attention and had fun, in true movie fan style, The Interview will now be one of those movies I have playing in the  background (Instead of music), so I can pause whatever I’m doing, in order to re-watch my favourite scenes.

THE INTERVIEW (2014): Why Does It feel like Hackers Just Stole my Christmas Present?

The Interview (2014) Seth Rogen, James Franco
The Interview (2014) Seth Rogen, James Franco

First the New York city premier of Seth Rogen and James Franco’s highly anticipated film, The Interview (2014) was cancelled. Now, Sony confirms that the movie has been pulled from overall release, thanks to a threat of terror upon cinema goers from the hackers responsible for a cyber attack on Sony Pictures.

People are talking about how outrageous it is that Sony would bow down to threats of terror and what all this means for freedom of expression. It isn’t great, but the overall answer seems simple to me. I personally doubt that Sony had any plans to cancel release. that is until the top three cinema chains in the U.S. pulled out of showing the film at all.

Without the necessary distribution network in place, there isn’t really any choice. Maybe things would have been different if Sony had their own chain of cinemas.

As a massive movie fan and an advocate of the comedic work of Rogen and Franco, I’m certainly hugely disappointed. Somehow though, I get the feeling that this is not the end of The Interview. As Judd Apatow put it:

This only guarantees that this movie will be seen by more people on earth than it would have before. Legally or illegally all will see it.

And with that note…
