Read my spoiler-free movie review of Nightbitch (2024).

Directed by Marielle Heller; Nightbitch is a new comedy/drama/horror film starring Amy Adams.

With a supporting cast that includes Scoot McNairy and Zoë Chao, Adams plays a woman whose domesticity takes a surreal turn after pausing her career to become a full-time mother.

Erm… So, this is very unexpected.

I’m down for the humour and to see Adams’s ‘mother’ character let the rage fly. Also, the fact that where her character’s name would usually go on IMDb, it simply says ‘mother,’ seems like a statement in itself.

Fingers crossed this leans towards the quirky/clever/funny side rather than a tad too weird to keep watching. What do you think?

Written and directed by Aaron Schimberg, the story follows Edward (Sebastian Stan), a man who is fixated on an actor cast in a play about Edward’s former life – before he underwent facial reconstructive surgery.

Renate Reinsve and Adam Pearson also star in this promising new comedy/horror/thriller, A Different Man.

What an interesting premise; having been so unhappy with one’s appearance that drastic action is taken to change it. Only everything doesn’t quite go as planned – and in the most unexpected way.

I’m excited about the comedy, how it will all be resolved, plus, Stan and Pearson’s performances.

Miles G. Jackson, Marc Geller, Neal Davidson, Patrick Wang, James Foster Jr., Billy Griffith, JJ McGlone, Corey R. Taylor and C. Mason Wells also star.

Ever wanted to be selected to test a new home device? A digital assistant (DA), perhaps? If your answer is yes, meet AIA, a DA that will learn your family’s behaviours and start to anticipate your needs; also making sure that nothing and no one gets in her (I mean your) family’s way.

From writer/director Chris Weitz; Afraid is a new horror/mystery/sci-fi starring John Cho, Keith Carradine, Katherine Waterston and David Dastmalchian.

I’m yet to see M3gan (2023) but something tells me that this story is scarier because it feels even closer to what is currently possible.

What I know for sure is, I agree with one of the reactions in the YouTube comment section for this trailer. ‘What? Think of me like another mom?‘ ‘Put that interloper back in the box!‘

I’m unsurprisingly curious about the people behind AIA and how they will be represented in this story. Did AIA get hacked or was she always designed to be a nefarious entity?

Lastly, I wonder how many more AI cautionary tale movies will be made. I’m sure the answer is ‘Yes’.

Mel Gibson, Kevin James, Mason Thames and Noah Cottrell star in Monster Summer, an adventure/horror/mystery directed by David Henrie.

At the sent is the story of a mysterious force. One that disrupts Noah and his friends’ much-anticipated summer fun.

This is giving me R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps, but potentially better.

It already looks as though the young actors have been well cast. As such, I’m down for the nostalgic scares that almost certainly won’t induce nightmares. I’m also curious about the story of the monster.

Lastly, I haven’t given much thought to this idea, but, I think it would be quite fun to be like the Mel Gibson character in real life; someone harmless that children find terrifying because of rumours that got out of hand. I can tell you agree.

Starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux and Willem Dafoe, the latest trailer for Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice looks quite fun.

I wonder, what occurred to you as this trailer played?

For me, the order of thoughts that went through my head include… Astrid feels strongly like a Wednesday Addams adjacent character. The guy who says ‘Is your mom Lydia Deetz?’ actually looks like Miss Deetz. The special effects, the makeup, the look ‘n’ feel and the humour are why I’ll have to watch this one.

Lastly, isn’t the above image of Monica Bellucci just super?
