Directed by Ron Howard, Pavarotti is a close look at the life and voice of the man who brought opera to the people, legendary opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.
Pavarotti promises intimate interviews, history-making performances and never-before-seen footage.
I’m in because even though I’m not an avid listener of opera music, Luciano Pavarotti is the only opera singer I can immediately name. And considering that all I really knew about him besides his occupation and Princess Diana being a big fan was that he was Italian. I actually can’t wait to see exactly what else I can learn, and very likely, love about the man.
Princess Diana, Bono, Spike Lee, Phil Donahue, Stevie Wonder, Nelson Mandela, José Carreras and Kofi Annan are among those featured in some of the archival footage.
Homecoming – A Film By Beyoncédelivered exactly what it promised; an intimate, in-depth look at the superstar’s highly celebrated 2018 Coachella performance.
Featuring the great songs and dances that fans know and love, and sometimes with help from very welcome special guest appearances, Homecoming is the ‘recorded for your viewing pleasure’ ‘Beychella’ experience many have been praying for.
I personally enjoyed the performances as much as I did the behind-the-scenes preparation footage. Footage that revealed the emotional road from creative concept to rehearsal and final show. I loved seeing Beyoncé taking charge of her vision. I also loved learning more about her heart, which I already knew was beautiful, because many years ago, she said she makes music to empower women.
The truth of that has been reconfirmed repeatedly over the years, through the many great anthems. Her heart was also clear to me in the Beyoncé – Year Of 4 documentary. It was in her reaction when, at the 2017 Grammys, Adele expressed what Beyoncé and her great work meant to her and her friends. And now, in this very documentary, through the following quote about her Coachella 2018 performance.
‘I feel we made something. I made my daughter proud, made my mother proud, my father proud and all of the people that are my brothers and sisters around the world. And that’s why I live. I’m so lucky and grateful that I’m able to take all these crazy ideas and, actually make it into something that heals people and may spark vision in people, that shows them to dream big. It shows them that they are limitless. It’s possible. If my country-ass can do it. They can do it.’
I love how Beyoncé’s purpose makes me feel seen. I can’t help but feel lifted when I hear her music.
Tune in for the great performances, music, and words of wisdom from several wise leaders – most prominently featured among them, activist and writer Maya Angelou.
Homecoming – A Film By Beyoncé is a documentary I had no idea was coming but I’m so glad it’s here.
Due for release on April 17th 2019 on Netflix, we are promised, an intimate, in-depth look at Beyoncé’s highly celebrated 2018 Coachella performance. Revealing the emotional road from creative concept to cultural movement.
Full confession, I was literally dozing off and trying to keep my eyes open for Bad Times At Hotel Royale (2018). And then, I checked my movie trailer notifications. AWAKE! That is my current state after watching this great trailer.
As someone who didn’t make it to Coachella 2018, I cannot wait for all the behind the scenes information, footage and to feel as though I was actually there while watching this.
In case it wasn’t completely obvious, I may never have seen her in concert but Beyoncé’s greatness is extremely far from lost on me.
Satan & Adam (2018), Sterling Magee, Adam Gussaw, Ryot
Directors Scott Balcerek and V. Scott Balcerek’s music documentary Satan and Adam is the story of one-man-band Sterling Magee, a.k.a ‘Mr. Satan’ and harmonica master Adam Gussow.
Showcasing the unifying power of music during a time in New York City when race relations were at an all-time-low, Magee and Gussow are the greatest blues duos you probably never got a chance to see.
I’m quite certain that the music will be good and I’ll be moved.
Mostly, however, it’s the rather compelling mystery that has me most interested.
Amazing Grace is a new documentary presenting previously unreleased concert footage of Aretha Franklin with a choir at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles in 1972.
Directed by Alan Elliott and Sydney Pollack; additional cast includes Reverand James Cleveland, C.L. Franklin, Clara Ward, Alexander Hamilton and Bernard Pretty Purdie.
I myself don’t actually listen to much gospel music but I am interested because of Franklin’s legacy.
I also want to know how the footage will be edited. Will we be watching the concert from start to finish or will the music be interspersed with Franklin’s story? I definitely have a personal preference.
