Based on a true story, starring Anjelica Huston, Jean Reno, Sadie Frost and Noah Schnapp, Waiting For Anaya is a new Ben Cookson-directed wartime drama. The story follows Jo (Schnapp), a young shepherd. One who gets help from the widow Horcada (Huston) to smuggle Jewish children across the border from southern France into Spain, during World War 2.

Additional key cast includes Frederick Schmidt, Thomas Kretschmann, Nicholas Rowe and Gilles Marini.

The moving and well-edited trailer grabbed my attention, and now I’m compelled to find out if Anya and her father are reunited.

Tómas Lemarquis, Joséphine de La Baume, Elsa Zylberstein, Urs Rechn, William Abadie, Jean-François Balmer and Raj Awasti also star.

Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Plummer and Jeremy Irvine are the stars of The Last Full Measure, the story of Airman William H. Pitsenbarger, Jr., who was awarded the nation’s highest military honour for his actions on the battlefield, thirty-four years after his death.

From Writer/director Todd Robinson; additional key cast includes Bradley Whitford, Ed Harris and Michael Imperioli.

I’m simply curious to find out why it had to take thirty four years for Pitsenbarger, Jr. to get the recognition he deserved. I also haven’t seen Stan in a leading role before, so this should be interesting.

Diane Ladd, William Hurt, Alison Sudol, Linus Roache, John Savage, Peter Fonda, Robert Pine and Amy Madigan also star.

Written/directed by Terrence Malick, new drama/biography A Hidden Life is the story of Franz Jägerstätter (August Diehl), an Austrian peasant farmer and an unsung hero, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II.

Additional key cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Valerie Pachner and Michael Nyqvist.

I’d never heard of Franz Jägerstätter until today. Now I’m looking forward to seeing how the esteemed Malick approaches this story, visually and otherwise. Fingers crossed for some kind of a happy ending.

Jürgen Prochnow, Bruno Ganz, Alexander Fehling, Ulrich Matthes, Karl Markovics and Franz Rogowski also star.

1917 is the latest drama from Oscar winning director Sam Mendes.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Richard Madden and Mark Strong, it’s a story set at the height of the First World War. Precisely when two young British soldiers are given an impossible mission in a life or death race against time.

Talk about a love story! What a thoroughly intense predicament.

Bring on the award nominations for one of my favourite directors who has been silent for a while but clearly very busy.

I wonder if my guess is correct in thinking that the brother racing to deliver the message doesn’t make it so his friend carries on instead. I’m sure that what ever the truth, this will still be a memorable audio visual experience.

Directed and co-written by Taika Waititi, JoJo Rabbit is a new comedy about a young boy in Hitler’s army who finds out that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home.

Key cast includes Waititi, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson and Alfie Allen.

I can’t help but wonder about how amusing this satire will be, considering the period and subject matter.

There’s perhaps extra hope that the result will be good considering all the big names involved. It simply must be good, right?

Stephen Merchant, Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Sitara Attaie, Victoria Hogan, Brian Caspe and Luke Brandon Field also star.
