RENFIELD (2023): New Trailer From Nicolas Cage, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Schwartz, Awkwafina…

Starring Nicholas Hoult, Nicolas Cage, Ben Schwartz and Awkwafina; the trailer for director Chris McKay’s comedy/fantasy/horror Renfield is here.

The very promising story follows Renfield, the tortured aide to Dracula, history’s most narcissistic boss.

After centuries of servitude, Renfield is now ready to see if there is life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness.

I like this angle on the Dracula story, especially considering that it’s a comedy.

As for Hoult’s involvement, first he was ‘R’ in Warm Bodies (2013) and now he is Renfield. I just realised that, for me, there’s something about Hoult in ghostly face makeup that makes his characters that much more intriguing. I’m sure it’s more about his prowess at portraying vulnerability, or his facial features rather than the white face paint that draw me in. Either way, I’m excited and ready for the fun dialogue plus action that Renfield is promising to serve up.

It will certainly be interesting to see the clever solution that Renfield settles on to end this unpleasant phase of his working life. Let’s collectively wish the poor chap a lot of luck, along with thoughts and prayers.

Shohreh Aghdashloo, Ben Schwartz, Brandon Scott Jones, Jenna Kanell, Caroline Williams, Adrian Martinez, Joshua Mikel, Choppy Guillotte, Dave Davis, Gissette Valentin, Taylor Shurte and Bess Rous also star.

RUMBLE (2021): New Trailer From Will Arnett, Ben Schwartz, Geraldine Viswanathan, Terry Crews…

Rumble (2021), Will Arnett, Paramount Studios
Rumble (2021), Will Arnett, Paramount Studios

Will Arnett, Ben Schwartz, Geraldine Viswanathan and Terry Crews are the cast of Rumble. An animated comedy set in a world where monster wrestling is a global sport and monsters are superstar athletes.

Directed by Hamish Grieve; Viswanathan is teenager Winnie who decides to coach a loveable underdog monster (Arnett) so he can become the new champion.

It’s definitely Arnett’s voice and the humour that are the main reasons I want to see this. Hopefully the story will also be great.

Jimmy Tatro, Tony Danza, Fred Melamed, Joe Anoa’i, Rebecca Quin, Michael Buffer and Stephen A. Smith also star.

Rumble Release Dates: February 18th, 2022 (US)…

STANDING UP, FALLING DOWN (2019): New Trailer Starring Billy Crystal, Ben Schwartz, Eloise Mumford, Grace Gummer…

The unlikely friendship between a struggling comedian named Scott and his alcoholic dermatologist Marty is at the centre of Standing Up, Falling Down, the new drama / comedy starring Billy Crystal and Ben Schwartz.

Directed by Matt Ratner, additional key cast includes Nate Corddry, Jill Hennessy, Caitlin McGee…

Movies about unlikely friendships are some of my absolute favourites. I recall Schwartz’s work most vividly in Parks and Recreation. Now I’m curious about what else he can do on screen – besides also playing Sonic in the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog (2020) movie of course.

David Castañeda, Leonard Ouzts, John Behlmann, Debra Monk, Kevin Dunn and Wade Allain-Marcus also star.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (2020): New Official Trailer Starring James Marsden, Jim Carey, Ben Schwartz, Neal McDonough…

A new official trailer has landed for Sonic The Hedgehog.

Starring James Marsden, Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz and Neal McDonough, this is the Jeff fowler directed story of a bright blue, super fast hedgehog. One who’s in danger of being capture by evil genius Dr. Robotnik. That’s unless he gets the help of small town cop Tom (Marsden).

You may notice that Sonic looks quite different when compared to his appearance in the previous trailer released six months ago. It looks like all the fan complaints about the way he was animated have been listened to. The most noticeable difference I can see is Sonic’s nose. I have to admit, he looks better, right? Definitely cuter.

I’m in for the humour, speed and Jim Carey’s character, – who’s now giving me Will Farrell as ‘Mugatu’ in Zoolander (2001) vibes. I LOVE Mugatu!

Tika Sumpter,Leanne Lapp, Debs Howard, Elfina Luk, Shannon Chan-Kent and Frank C. Turner also star.

Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Neal McDonough and Ben Schwartz are the stars of new animation adventure Sonic The Hedgehog.

Directed by Jeff fowler, Marsden plays the cop who’ll help Sonic escape government capture so that Dr. Robotnik (Carey) won’t get to do experiments on Sonic.

I really, REALLY enjoyed this trailer. I enjoyed it for reasons including the fact that the movie looks really fun. Then there’s that great 90s nostalgia which is topped very nicely with Coolio’s classic, Gangster’s Paradise.

Last but not least, I’m very excited to see Carey in a role that’s reminiscent of so many of his great classic works, many of which came out in the 90s.

On a side note, Is it just me who half expected Sonic to be voiced by Ryan Reynolds?

Tika Sumpter, Leanne Lapp, Debs Howard, Elfina Luk, Shannon Chan-Kent and Frank C. Turner also star.

NIGHT SCHOOL (2018): The Thing I liked…

Night School (2018), Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish
Night School (2018), Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish

Night School, Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish’s comedy about adult troublemakers forced to get ready for the GED exam during night classes is not all that I’d hoped.

My very favourite moment in the whole nearly two hour duration of the movie is the beginning. Reason being, that’s when it had the most promise. Unfortunately though, from that point on my interest in the characters just decreased more and more as the film continued.

I definitely think that the movie should have been at least 20 minutes shorter. I like what it had to say about second chances and how instrumental the right teacher can be in getting the best out of seemingly difficult students. Nevertheless, I wanted the film to have my whole attention, without my mind wandering as it played. It’s therefore not as funny or engaging as the trailer had me hoping.

Give it a chance if you’re a big enough fan of Haddish, Hart and Taran Killam. Just know that you probably won’t consider it one of their best movies.
