THE HATEFUL EIGHT (2015): For Tarantino’s Mastery Of Storytelling, Suspense…

I think that my initial lacklustre enthusiasm after seeing the first teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film, The Hateful Eight likely had more to do with the film’s genre than anything else.

Admittedly, the Western will probably never be my first choice in film genre. Nevertheless, I have absolutely zero regrets after watching The Hateful Eight and Tarantino’s previous movie, Django Unchained (2012), also a Western.

Good servings of expert story-telling, entertaining dialogue, great music and camerawork are all very present in The Hateful Eight – A film I consider a well-sculpted two-plus hours of suspenseful entertainment with an ending you will love.

The cinematography in the movie also manages to stand out even though everything in the film happens at precisely 3 locations.

I liked the pace and the way things really started to build up, especially around the moment that the audience started to hear ‘Silent Night’ on the piano. The tension and suspense at this point are really something to experience, and part of the reason Tarantino is considered a master filmmaker.

If you haven’t already guessed, I think that The Hateful Eight is a movie worth seeing. Certainly, one I’ll be watching again very soon. I don’t know if it’s quite Tarantino’s best, but perhaps that would depend on one’s preferred movie genre.

Walton Goggins’s portrayal of Sheriff Chris Mannix, Tim Roth’s Oswaldo Mobray and  Samuel L. Jackson’s Major Marquis Warren are my favourite of The Hateful Eight characters. The first two are because of the humour, and the latter, thanks to the dialogue, style and undeniable cool.

Watch The Hateful Eight for the storytelling and filmmaking mastery. Lastly, if you can make out the first lines of dialogue that come out of the mouth of Jody, played by Channing Tatum, please let me know in the comments below because I really tried yet failed to make sense of any of it.

I wasn’t as excited as I expected to be after seeing the teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s latest, The Hateful Eight, but after the official full trailer….

I’m excited to meet all the undoubtedly cool characters and see the story play out in that traditionally spectacular Tarantino fashion.

You don’t really see his face in the trailer, but I can tell that the guy on the far right of the screen at 1:30 is Channing Tatum. Bring on the linguistic acrobatics. I know I’m ready.

I’m really hoping that Hail Caesar! is great. Especially since musicals aren’t my thing.

MAGIC MIKE (2012): First For The Spectacle, Then The Story

A film about male strippers with Channing Tatum in the leading role isn’t something that’s particularly easy to ignore; even when you suspect that it may not be amazing.

The first time I watched the Steven Soderbergh directed story about a male stripper with a plan, I have to admit, I was probably too distracted by the dance moves and baby oil.

It was during the second viewing a few years later that I found myself appreciating Soderbergh’s vision a little more. Not to say that the film is now in my list of favourites, because it did feel a tad long. However, this time around, the lead character’s story and internal struggle is the thing I paid attention to and I’m glad I did.

Matthew McConaughey is very entertaining as Dallas; the seasoned male stripper in charge. Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Cody Horn and Olivia Munn also star.

I can’t say that I’ve heard great things about the sequel, Magic Mike XXL (2015). But what you hear all depends on who’s asked and what motivated them to watch. I suspect I won’t have a terrible time.

Quentin Tarantino has a new movie and this time it’s a western that’s centred around bounty hunters,  and set in post-Civil War Wyoming.

Teaser trailer

This trailer doesn’t exactly have me yelping with joy just yet. Nevertheless,  of course, I’m intrigued and I’ll watch it because it’s Tarantino. Additionally, I know many good things, including super dialogue and stunning cinematography are coming our way.
