Miss Sloane is the story of an ambitious lobbyists’s efforts to pass gun control legislation in the United states.

Starring Jessica Chastain, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jake Lacy, the movie is directed by John Madden of Shakespeare In Love (1998) and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011).

I was really wanting to be more excited about this film after learning of the subject matter. However, this trailer doesn’t have me as desperate to see the movie as I’d hoped.

Perhaps my current lack of enthusiasm will be proven misplaced. I’m sure the knowledge that there’s currently very little, if any success in the US where gun control legislation is concerned certainly doesn’t help matters.

In the mean time, I say bring on that time in the future when the gun control legislation that’s desperately needed is finally a reality.

Featuring a talented cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mahershala Ali and Keri Russell, I’m looking forward to what I’m hoping will be an inspiring tale of courage and conviction.

I’m also excited about the chance to watch and listen to one or more perfectly rousing speeches delivered by McConaughey’s character in his role as as American farmer, soldier and leader of the rebellion, Newton Knight.

CONCUSSION (2015): Intense New Trailer With Will Smith As Dr. Bennet Omalu

I knew this public holiday had to gift me with a great new trailer. And it has, for Will Smith has a brand new movie.

I can’t wait to see this, first because it looks good, and second, Smith sounds absolutely nothing like himself, therefore making for an even more satisfying transformation for the spectator.

Concussion is written and directed by Peter Landesman, the man responsible for 2014’s Kill The messenger starring Jeremy Renner.

Alec Baldwin and British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw also star, along with Stephen Moyer, Luke Wilson and Albert Brooks.

Due for release stateside on December 25th (2015) and January 29th (2016) for the U.K.

At the centre of director Amma Asante’s film Belle (2013), is the story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral.

Brought to England from the West Indies to live with her aristocratic great uncle and his wife, the young Dido over time, learns of the matters of class and rank that rule her new world. A world with laws she simply must not accept, for the sake of her own dignity, happiness and sense of self.

Great performances are present in this movie, particularly from Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tom Wilkinson and Sam Reid.

Watch it for the story of an admirably strong young woman, a courageous young man, a beautiful love story and great characters from an interesting and important time in history – 18th century England, when slavery was still a grave and common reality.

As is the case with most historical films I watch, Belle left me with a sense of gratitude for the times in which I live – and reminded me of how things do change; rarely at a satisfactory pace, but change, they do. They must.
