In X-Men Dark Phoenix, the X-Men must decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world. Reason being, Jean Grey has began to develop incredible corrupting powers that will turn her into a Dark Phoenix.

Directed by Simon Kinberg; key cast includes James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Sophie Turner.

I just recently finished watching Captain America – Civil War (2016) and the plot of Dark Phoenix reminds me of  it. I’m blaming that for my slightly subdued enthusiasm. Well, that and the fact that this trailer didn’t quite induce the expected yelp of excitement it’s predecessors did.

I actually thought that the Lawrence, McAvoy and Fassbender phase of X-Men had been wrapped up. I’m not mad that it hasn’t yet, but I just wish that overall, this trailer had me more excited.

My favourite line so far is ‘I’ve seen evil, and I’m looking at it now.’ It’s therefore unsurprising that what I’m most excited about overall is Sophie Turners ‘good girl gone bad’ performance.

Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, Alexandra Shipp, Ato Essandoh and Summer Fontana also star.

X-Men Dark Phoenix Release Dates: June 7th, 2019 (UK & US)…

Aaron Sorkin, a Hollywood name most film lovers know purely for his great screenwriting abilities has directed an exciting looking drama.

Starring Idris Elba, Jessica Chastain, Michael Cera, and Kevin Costner, Molly’s Game is a true story about an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game and became an FBI target.

I’m excited for reasons including the fact that I really enjoy Aaron Sorkin’s writing. As such, I’m hoping that his directing will be great too.

The pairing of Elba and Chastain is one I didn’t know I wanted to see until I just saw it. Fingers crossed that this film turns out really well.

Chris O’Dowd, Rachel Skarsten and Bill Camp also star.

Molly’s Game Release Dates: November 22nd, 2017 (US), December 29th, 2017 (UK)…

Jessica Chastain and Daniel Bruhl’s new movie, The Zookeeper’s Wife tells the true story of keepers of the Warsaw Zoo during the Nazi invasion.

Directed by Niki Caro and based on Diane Ackerman’s bestselling book, my reason for wanting to watch The Zookeeper’s Wife is the beautiful animals. That and Chastain’s rightly-celebrated acting talents, of course.

MISS SLOANE (2016): New Trailer Starring Jessica Chastain, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jake Lacy…

Miss Sloane is the story of an ambitious lobbyists’s efforts to pass gun control legislation in the United states.

Starring Jessica Chastain, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jake Lacy, the movie is directed by John Madden of Shakespeare In Love (1998) and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011).

I was really wanting to be more excited about this film after learning of the subject matter. However, this trailer doesn’t have me as desperate to see the movie as I’d hoped.

Perhaps my current lack of enthusiasm will be proven misplaced. I’m sure the knowledge that there’s currently very little, if any success in the US where gun control legislation is concerned certainly doesn’t help matters.

In the mean time, I say bring on that time in the future when the gun control legislation that’s desperately needed is finally a reality.

Miss Sloane Release Dates: December 9th, 2016 (US)…

CRIMSON PEAK (2015): Style, Story & Cinematography…

Crimson Peak (2015), Tom Hiddleston
Crimson Peak (2015), Tom Hiddleston

The first thing I noticed and immediately loved about Crimson Peak is the cinematography. Particularly the rich colours, beautiful period fashion and the use of light and shadow.

Directed and co-written by Guillermo del Toro, Crimson Peak is a visual feast of a gothic romance. One that features a gifted author, Edith (Mia Wasikowska) who is a young lady faced with the choice between two potential suiters.

One of Edith’s suiters is her childhood friend Alan, (Charlie Hunnam) and the other is a dark, mysterious and mesmerising newcomer called  Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston).

I’d like to think that faced with Edith’s predicament I might be wise enough to make the ‘healthiest’ choice. But considering how much I find myself mesmerised by Hiddleston’s character’s voice, words and presence, I’m thinking absolutely not.

A feast for the eyeballs is  one way to describe Guillermo del Toro’s movie. I also like the  beautiful romance which just happens to be a great reminder for how truly blinding love can be.

It crossed my mind that perhaps, some of the ghostly special effects could have done with a little extra financial investment. But overall, I like Crimson Peak.

Lastly,  what a wonderfully meaty role Jessica Chastain was blessed to play.

Watch it for the story, romance, and visual beauty. As you do that, I’ll continue dreaming about having full access to the beautiful contents of Edith’s wardrobe.
