28 YEARS LATER (2025): The Things I Liked…

Having only watched 28 Days Later (2002), the first movie in the trilogy that includes 28 Weeks Later (2007) and now, 28 Years Later (2025), just a few weeks ago, I had high hopes for the latest instalment. How could I not after the memorable trailers starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer and Alfie Williams?

Written by Alex Garland of Ex Machina (2004) and directed by Danny Boyle, 28 Years Later is my favourite of the three films set in a United Kingdom that has been taken over by a mysterious and incurable zombie virus, leaving just a handful of survivors.

It’s the great pacing, musical score, performances (by Comer in particular), visual effects, shooting style, cinematography and editing that places 28 Years Later at number one, for me. I appreciated the editing so much that for the first time in all my years of loving film, I took note of the editor’s (Jon Harris) name.

I’m glad that even though 28 Years Later is partly a horror film, I didn’t see anything that resulted in nightmares. And, truth be told, Sinners may still be my favourite film of 2025, so far, but I’d say that 28 Years Later is at least in the top five.

Watch Garland and Boyle’s latest for all the reasons above, and one more: the stunning alpha chase sequence. You know how much I enjoy a well-choreographed chase sequence.

Happy Film loving,

28 YEARS LATER (2025): New Trailer For Danny Boyle Movie Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Jodie Comer, Cillian Murphy…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of 28 Years Later (2025).

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Jodie Comer and Cillian Murphy’s latest highly anticipated film, 28 Years Later, the one that’s directed by Danny Boyle has a great new trailer.

This is a great trailer. I also enjoyed the sort of teaser of the trailer that’s now above. Another way to put it is, I loved the creative ‘holding page’ that existed before this trailer was officially published some hours later, the one that featured the red skulls.

I’m starting to doubt if my sensitive disposition can endure such a film. I still want to, even more, because of how creative and exciting the marketing campaign has been. Maybe I’ll try telling myself it will be only as scary as A Quiet Place (2028), which I can watch sans nightmares.

I’m truly, very excited for all the super fans.

Erin Kellyman, Edvin Ryding, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Edvin Ryding, Chi Lewis-Parry, Alfie Williams and Nathan Hall also star.

That hit 2002 zombie horror movie 28 Days Later, which starred Cillian Murphy, Brandon Gleeson and Naomie Harris, finally has a great-looking follow-up film called 28 Years Later.

Directed once again by Danny Boyle and co-written by Boyle and Alex Garland of Ex Machina (2015), as the title suggests, the movie appears to be set 28 years after the events of the first film, and it’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer and Cillian Murphy who star.

I have not yet watched 28 Days Later. However, based on this trailer being so wonderful that I didn’t know what to do with myself, I’ve decided to be brave and watch it before 28 Years Later is released.

Isn’t the poem that plays over this trailer just perfectly chosen, from the rhythm to the tone of the reader’s voice and everything in between?

Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, Edvin Ryding, Edvin Ryding, Chi Lewis-Parry, Alfie Williams and Nathan Hall also star.

THE BIKERIDERS (2023): New Trailer Starring Jodie Comer, Mike Faist, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon…

Starring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Michael Shannon, Tom Hardy and Mike Faist; The Bikeriders is a new crime/drama directed by Jeff Nichols of (Mud (2012) and Loving (2016).

Capturing the evolution of a motorcycle club from a social safe place to a sinister gang, The Bikeriders tells the story of Benny (Butler) and the choice he has to make between the gang and his new love.

I generally care very little about motorcycles, but this trailer has me invested in how Benny’s (Butler) story will end. As always, there’s no doubt Hardy will be his usual memorable self.

One more thing, initially I felt as though The Bikeriders is not the best title for this movie. Now I feel as though it may have grown on me. What do you think? is the title too ‘on the nose’ or is it perfectly fine?

Beau Knapp, Damon Herriman, Emory Cohen, Toby Wallace, Paul Sparks, Karl Glusman, Happy Anderson, Will Oldham, Mierka Girten, Paul Dillon and Nathan Neorr also star.

The Bikeriders Release Dates: June 21st, 2024 (US & UK)…

FREE GUY (2020): New Trailer Starring Ryan Reynolds, Joe Keery, Taika Waititi, Jodie Comer…

Free Guy (2020), Ryan Reynolds, 20th Century Fox

Directed by Shawn Levy, Ryan Renolds’s new action/comedy Free Guy has a new trailer.

Also starring Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Joe Keery Free Guy has Reynolds an NPC (Non Player Character) inside a brutal, open world video game.

Interesting. I think I like the original trailer released back in December 2019 more than I do this one. Not that this is a bad trailer. However, this particular edit makes the ‘good guy’ aspect of Reynolds’s character feel especially contrived.

Perhaps I’m having trouble divorcing Reynolds from his Deadpool (2016) character ,and can’t fully buy him as his Guy character. It could also be that all my ‘good guy’ interest level has been assigned completely to Ted Lasso (2020). Maybe.

Or, maybe I’m completely wrong and end up loving this movie come its December 2020 release date. Maybe indeed.

Aaron W Reed, Kenneth Israel, Leah Procito, Owen Burke, Jamaal Burcher and Britne Oldford also star.
