SPEED (1994): The Things I Liked…

I have always wanted to watch Speed, that 90s hit action movie starring Keanu Reeves as a young police officer. One tasked with preventing a bomb aboard a city bus from exploding if only he could keep it moving at 50 miles per hour or above.

Directed by Jan de Bont and also starring Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper and Jeff Daniels, I found Speed watchable at best. By the end, I wondered if I’d have enjoyed it more had I seen it around the original release date. It’s also likely that Speed just isn’t my favourite kind of action movie/thriller. Whatever the answer, I did appreciate the pace and the handful of clever story elements.

As for my favourite thing about Speed? That has to bewatching a young Keanu Reeves doing a good job in a relatively early role, of course.

If you have not already seen it, and you’re curious enough, you know what to do.

BALLERINA (2025): New Trailer Starring Ana de Armas, Keanu Reeves, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus…

Ana de Armas is Eve, a.k.a. Ballerina, a female assassin from the world of John Wick. Eve’s mission is to seek revenge against those who killed her family.

Directed by Len Wiseman; additional key cast includes Keanu Reeves, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Norman Reedus.

I’m sure this will be entertaining and de Armas will be great. However, even though I’m quite partial to stories of vengeance, I’m starting to wonder how many more assassin movies I can watch before serious fatigue properly sets in.

I remember starting to feel similarly about superhero films some years ago. Now, unfortunately, I tend to ignore most of the new ones, with just one exception, Deadpool.

In a way, assassins are sort of superheroes. Their motivation is just usually more personal than focused on saving humanity.

Of course, I can understand why many will be watching Ballerina. But, I wonder, how much more time and energy do you still have for assassin films?

Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston, David Castañeda, Gabriel Byrne, Anne Parillaud, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Abraham Popoola, Togo Igawa, Caleb Spillyards, Ava Joyce McCarthy and Jaroslav Vundrle also star.

Ballerina Release Dates: June 6th, 2025 (US); June 7th 2025 (UK)…

JOHN WICK- CHAPTER 4 (2023): New Trailer From Keanu Reeves, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Donnie Yen…

John Wick – Chapter 4 (2023), Hiroyuki Sanada, Lionsgate Movies

John Wick did not get killed in John Wick- Chapter 3 – Parabellum. So, naturally, chapter 4 has been due.

Starring Keanu Reeves, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Donnie Yen, and directed by Chad Stahelski; this fourth movie has Wick with an even bigger price on his head. A price so large that he has to seek out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris, Osaka and Berlin.

I like the international setting of this one. However, I’m mainly showing up to take in the colours, thrilling action sequences, and definitely to watch Reeves look good in a black suit while doing very impressive movie stuff.

Another reason is Hiroyuki Sanada. He just has a way of standing out in a good way in each movie I’ve seen him in. Two such examples being Mortal Kombat (2021) and Bullet Train (2022).

Is there enough in this trailer to keep your interest? Or are you already done with the John Wick franchise? I can’t help but wonder just how many more will be made.

Laurence Fishburne, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Ian McShane, Marko Zaror, Natalia Tena and Aimée Kwan also star.

John Wick Chapter 4 Release Dates: March 24th, 2023 (US & UK)…

The long awaited forth instalment of The Matrix finally has a trailer, and goo/promising are the words.

The Matrix Resurrections, an action/sci-fi film directed by Lana Wachowski stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Very little about the original Matrix movies comes to mind when I try to remember. I’ll be watching because of Reeves, the promise of great special effects and the fact that this is one of the major movie events of 2021. One I just happen to be rather curious about.

I’m hoping like crazy that this will be worth the wait. And in between all the hoping, I’ll rewatch the first, second and third Matrix movies.

Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, Jada Pinkett Smith, Ellen Hollman, Telma Hopkins, Max Riemelt and Daniel Bernhardt also star.

The Matrix Resurrections Release Dates: December 22nd, (US & UK)…

A new trailer for Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter and Samara Weaving’s new Dean Parisot-directed Bill & Ted movie, Bill & Ted Face The Music just landed, and it’s looking like fun.

I’m in and ready for this particular brand of silliness. I also like that this is a comedy/music/sci-fi, not a thing that happens very often.

Hal Landon Jr., Kid Cudi, Beck Bennett, Brigette Lundy-Paine, William Sadler, Kristen Schaal and Holland Taylor also star.

Bill & Ted Face The Music Release Dates: August 28th, 2020 (US)…
