TRANSFORMERS ONE (2024): The Things I Liked…

I was never the biggest fan of Transformers (autobots/robots that can transform into other forms, such as vehicles and animals), except I did enjoy the 2007 movie starring Shia La Boef, Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel.

Since then, the Transformers movies that followed didn’t quite speak to me. That is until I learned that the cast of Transformers One, the latest film in the franchise includes Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Keegan Michael Key, Brian Tyree Henry, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Hamm and Steve Buscemi.

Directed by Josh Cooley, Transformers One is an animated action/adventure film about the origin story of sworn enemies Optimus Prime and Megatron, two transformers who were once the best of friends.

I must admit to enjoying Transformers One more than I expected to. Cooley’s film is a well-structured story. One with engaging, fun characters, funny moments, plus, visuals that will have you locked in – adults and children alike. And you certainly don’t have to be a die-hard Transformers fan to have a good time.

When forced to pick one thing to improve Cooley’s film, it would be for Megatron’s turn to the dark side to feel less rushed.

Watch Transformers One if you’re curious. You’ll likely find yourself pleasantly surprised.

MIGRATION (2023) The Things I Liked…

The story and message about not being too afraid to expand one’s horizons and see the world may not be delivered in the most non-generic and sophisticated way; but, directors Benjamin Renner and Guylo Homsy’s animated action/adventure, Migration is still fun to watch.

Starring Elizabeth Banks, Kumail Nanjiani, Keegan-Michael Key and Awkwafina; Migration is joy-inducing, colourful, cute and features some engaging characters – my favourite of which is Delroy the Jamaican parrot, who is played rather well by Key.

Watch Migration because it’s fun, cute, and it’s only one hour and twenty-three minutes long. Also, look out for that ‘It’s about time I went to Jamaica‘ feeling, because it’s coming.

Happy Film Loving,
