BEFORE THE FLOOD (2016): A Worthy Addition To Leonardo DiCaprio’s Filmography…

As I started to watch Before The FloodLeonardo DiCaprio’s climate change documentary, it took me a few seconds to adjust to the fact that the DiCaprio was talking to me and as himself; not as a character in one of his many well-received Hollywood movies.

The good news is that I did eventually get myself together in time to learn some surprising truths about global warming. For example, without dropping any spoilers, the unexpected way certain parts of the planet will be impacted as climate change continues, and greater action isn’t taken to fight it.

Through conversations that DiCaprio has with several knowledgeable people in the field, Before The Flood shows us the damage we have done and continue to do to our planet. We get to see precisely where we’re headed as a result and are exposed to the harsh realities of why many people with the power have continued to ignore what is happening.

Thanks to the hard work of many who understand climate change to be a real issue, everything is not all doom and gloom. For example, business magnate, investor, engineer, and inventor Elon Musk; NASA astronaut Dr. Piers Sellers; Professor of Economics at Harvard University, Gregory Mankiw and many more including ordinary people around the world are dedicated to the cause.

Not that I needed more reasons to appreciate DiCaprio’s work but it’s hard not to admire a person so passionate about a cause which impacts all of us. It’s particularly great to see that, understanding his own position, he does what he can to affect positive change.

Watch Before The Flood, for it is a worthy documentary. My favourite moment is DiCaprio’s entire conversation with Dr. Piers Sellers towards the end. When you see, you’ll understand.

In conclusion, I recommend, I recommend, I recommend.

THE IVORY GAME (2016): New Trailer For Documentary About The Fight Against Africa’s Illegal Ivory Trade…

The Ivory Game (2016)
The Ivory Game (2016)

The Ivory Game is a new Netflix documentary about the work of wildlife activists on a mission to end the illegal trading of ivory in Africa.

I don’t want to imagine a world without elephants and so I must watch, as upset as I’m sure to be whilst doing so. Who know’s what doing so may inspire.

The Ivory Game Release Dates: November 4th, 2016 (US & UK)…

BEFORE THE FLOOD (2016): New Trailer For Leonardo DiCaprio Climate Change Documentary…

Before The Flood is the Leonardo DiCaprio-executive produced and narrated documentary about climate change, endangered species, ecosystems and native communities around the world.

Clearly not a drama, thriller or action movie, nevertheless, as a lifelong appreciator of DiCaprio’s work, there’s no question at all that I’ll be tuning in to this, and with great enthusiasm.

I’m also hoping to learn a few things that perhaps other similar documentaries haven’t covered in quite the same way.

Before The Flood Release Dates: October 21st, 2016 (US)

OSCARS 2016: A Reminder For Why I Love Chris Rock So Much…

Chris Rock, Oscars 2016
Chris Rock, Oscars 2016

During all the Oscars controversy of the last few months, I knew that this year’s chosen host, Chris Rock would make the right choice about whether to present the event or not. I certainly wished that he would. Especially because anyone that has seen any of his standup comedy knows full well that the man is smart. Precisely as smart and impassioned as the excellent job he did with the 2016 Oscars opening monologue

I stayed up late to listen to Rock’s words immediately. I’m certainly exhausted this morning but I regret nothing.

Other key highlights for me included Leonardo DiCaprio’s Best Actor win and Kate Winslet’s reaction as he delivered his speech. Who doesn’t want a friendship like that? There’s also the beauty of the last few words of Best Director winner for The Revenant (2015) Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s acceptance speech:

I am very lucky to be here tonight, but unfortunately, many others haven’t had the same luck. There is a line in the film where Glass, to his mixed race son says, ‘They don’t listen to you, they just see the colour of your skin’ So what a great opportunity for our generation to really liberate ourselves from all prejudice and this tribal thinking and make sure, for once and forever that the colour of our skin becomes as irrelevant as the length of our hair

It’s just so very beautiful, isn’t it?

THE REVENANT (2015): Great Movie, The Trailer Did Not Lie…

The Revenant (2015): Leonardo DiCaprio
The Revenant (2015): Leonardo DiCaprio

Alejandro González Iñárritu is the director of The Revenant, a much talked about movie with a brilliant cast. Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Will Poulter and Domhnall Gleeson to name just a few.

In addition to the talented film making team, the important thing prospective viewers really need to know before watching is that The Revenant is a tale of vengeance, the very highly justifiable kind.

Iñárritu is well known for his innovative shooting style, and how The Revenant is shot fully lives up to this reputation. Not to say that you’ll find anyone levitating like in Birdman (2014),  Iñárritu’s previous Oscar-winning movie. However, as the film’s magnificent teaser trailer revealed in July 2015, you’ll experience some impressive things you probably haven’t experienced before. There’s also the original musical score and beautiful wintery cinematography.

If all I’ve mentioned so far still isn’t reason enough to convince you to watch, there’s the possibility that The Revenant may just result in a long overdue Best Actor Oscar win for Leonardo DiCaprio. I mean, did you see the standing ovasion he received at the Golden Globes when his name was called for Best Performance By an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama), for this very movie?

Bring on February 28th 2016, an Oscars presentation that will be interesting for several reasons.
