WRECK IT RALPH (2012), The Things I Liked…

Wreck it Ralph, the animated comedy about a video game villain who wants to be a hero, but inadvertently brings havoc to the place he lives, as he tries to do just that is a movie I’m glad to have finally watched.

What I like most about writer / director Rich Moore’s film is the general cleverness of the story and its execution. There’s a particular twist in the story that I didn’t see coming that stands out as a favourite moment.

Another element to enjoy about Wreck It Ralph is the animated cuteness. It’s not quite the baby Jack Jack from Incredibles 2 (2018)or the Minions (2015)kind of extreme cuteness, but it’s cuteness all the same.

Even though Wreck It Ralph is overall a good movie, it isn’t quite in my top ten list of favourite animated films. I blame my non-gamer status for this. Especially since I’m sure that those who’ve played all or most of the arcade games featured are very likely going to enjoy this movie that much more. Of all the games in the movie, I’ve only ever really played PacMan and Sonic the Hedgehog.

I know that by this point you’ve probably already seen this movie and its sequel – but if not, tune in to appreciate the smart execution and especially if you’re a fan of arcade games.

Wreck It Ralph stars John C. Reilly, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch and Sarah Silverman.

In Ralph Breaks the Internet – Wreck-It Ralph 2, Ralph and Vanellope discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a brand  new adventure.

Directed by Phil Johnston and Rich Moore, the film’s stars include John C. Reilly, Kristen Bell, Mandy Moore, Sarah Silverman…

Random thoughts that entered my mind as I watched this trailer…

‘Wow, that’s a lot of colour in one shot.’ ‘There’s plenty going on in each shot.’ ‘I want to use the Internet, not see its colourful, super crazy-busy inner workings.’ Am I feeling dizzy? I’m pretty sure the visuals are making me dizzy.’ ‘That little girl in the car looks so much like baby Moana; I love baby Moana because I AM baby Moana!’ So good is the animation, I nearly through up when the bunny ate its last pile of pancakes.’

There you have it. I’m both ready and not ready to watch Wreck-It Ralph 2.

Kelly Macdonald, Auli’i Cravalho, Alan Tudyk and Taraji P. Henson also star.

THE BOOK OF HENRY (2017): New Trailer From Naomi Watts, Jacob Tremblay, Sarah Silverman, Jaeden Lieberher…

The Book Of Henry (2017), Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts, Jacob Tremblay, Sarah Silverman and Jaeden Lieberher are the stars of The Book Of Henry, the Colin Trevorrow directed movie about a single mother raising a genius child. But wait.  There’s more…

I’m intrigued because of the genius child and seemingly regular mother dynamiC.  I also can’t wait for the police commissioner to get what’s coming to him.

The Book Of Henry Release Dates: June 16th, 2017 (US)…

THE LAST LAUGH (2016): New Trailer For Documentary About Humour & The Holocaust – Featuring Sarah Silverman, Mel Brooks, Judy Gold…

The Last Laugh (2016), Sarah Silverman

Today we have another documentary about funny people. Featuring among others, Mel Brooks, Sarah Silverman, Klara Firestone and Rob Reiner, the topic director Ferne Pearlstein’s The Last Laugh is whether it’s ever acceptable to use humour when dealing with a tragedy of the scale of the holocaust…

I’m thinking it’s not necessarily what you do but when and how you do it. It’ll be interesting to see how the professionally funny break this down in more detail.

The Last Laugh Release Dates: March 3rd, 2017 (US)…

POPSTAR – NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING (2016): The Thing I Liked…

Popstar - Never Stop Never Stopping (2016), Andy Samberg
Popstar – Never Stop Never Stopping (2016), Andy Samberg

Popstar – Never Stop Never Stopping stars Andy Samberg and it’s a comedy I did not hate. Nevertheless, I was definitely hoping to laugh at least twice as much as I actually did. Instead of laughing, my reaction to many of the jokes was a slight smile. The pace of the movie certainly didn’t exactly help.

If I were forced to pick a favourite moment in the film, nothing really comes to mind except everything I saw in the trailer. The trailer was great, where as the  movie is at best, just ok.

Watch it especially if you’re a big Andy Samberg and or The Lonely Island fan.

POPSTAR – NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING (2016): New Comedy Trailer From Andy Samberg & Imogen Poots

Read my quick spoiler-free movie review of Popstar – Never Stop Never Stopping (2016).

Popstar – Never Stop Never Stopping is a brand new comedy coming this summer and it stars  Andy Samberg as popstar Conner4Real.

Trailer 1

Trailer 2

The story follows the fictional superstar after very disappointing album sales, the perfect place for the comedy to start.

My hope is that this movie is better than 7 Days In Hell (2015), which for me, turned out to be much funnier in trailer form.

With cameos from music industry personalities and artists including Simon Cowell, Carrie Underwood and Usher, my fingers are tightly crossed. Maybe Conner4Real can be the Derek Zoolander (2001) of the music industry. Though, perhaps sans the ‘mental challenges’ that plague the stereotypical male model. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter as long as the end result is funny.

ASHBY (2015): The Good Things…

Ashby (2015), Mickey Rourke, Nat Wolff
Ashby (2015), Mickey Rourke, Nat Wolff

Ashby is the kind of movie I tune into for some light entertainment – and yes, I was somewhat adequately entertained, I guess. Though mostly by Sarah Silverman’s character. She had the most fun dialogue. Nat Wolff did a good job with his outsider role and he too has a few fun lines.

The best moment in the movie for me has to be the scene towards the end between Mickey Rourke’s Ashby and Father Ted. The dialogue, delivery and emotion was just right.

Overall, I would have had a lot more fun if Ashby had focused more on Rourke’s story at the expense of a few of the other characters. Clearly that would make for a completely different movie so I guess my point is, something about Ashby and all the other character’s stories just didn’t quite come together particularly well.

Watch it only if you absolutely must. Also, Mickey Rourke’s smarter outfits are rather nice – so there’s that.

I SMILE BACK (2015): New Trailer Starring Josh Charles & Sarah Silverman As A Troubled Woman

I Smile Back (2015), Sarah Silverman
I Smile Back (2015), Sarah Silverman

Funny woman Sarah Silverman has a new trailer and it’s not a comedy…

The last time I saw Silverman in a serious dramatic role, she was in Take This Waltz (2011). This time round she’s not a supporting actress but the lead. So if you’re a fan of her comedy, make sure you’re in the mood to watch a drama because you probably don’t want to find yourself disappointed because you’re wanting or expecting her to be funny.

Directed by Adam Salky, Josh Charles and Thomas Sadoski also star

Release date (s): October 23rd (2015) (US)
