Read my quick spoiler-free movie review of Popstar – Never Stop Never Stopping (2016).

Popstar – Never Stop Never Stopping is a brand new comedy coming this summer and it stars Andy Samberg as fictional popstar Conner4Real.

Trailer 2

The story follows the superstar after very disappointing album sales, the perfect place for the comedy to start.

My hope is that this movie is better than 7 Days In Hell (2015), which for me, turned out to be much funnier in trailer form.

With cameos from music industry personalities and artists including Simon Cowell, Carrie Underwood and Usher, my fingers are tightly crossed.

Maybe Conner4Real can be the Derek Zoolander (2001) of the music industry. Though, perhaps sans the ‘mental challenges’ that plague the stereotypical male model. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter as long as the end result is funny.

Popstar – Never Stop Never Stopping Release Dates: June 3rd, 2016 (US & CAN); August 26th, 2016 (UK) …

ASHBY (2015): The Good Things…

Ashby (2015), Mickey Rourke, Nat Wolff
Ashby (2015), Mickey Rourke, Nat Wolff

Ashby, a comedy/crime/drama about a high-school student who befriends his retired CIA assassin with only a few months to live is the kind of movie I tune into for some light entertainment – and yes, I was somewhat adequately entertained, I guess. Though, mostly by Sarah Silverman’s character. She had the most fun dialogue. Nat Wolff did a good job with his outsider role and he too has a few fun lines.

The best moment in writer/director Tony McNamara’s movie, for me is the scene towards the end, between Mickey Rourke’s Ashby and Father Ted. The dialogue, delivery and emotion were just right.

Overall, I would have had a lot more fun if Ashby had focused more on Rourke’s story at the expense of a few of the other characters. Clearly, that would make for a completely different movie so I guess my point is, something about Ashby and all the other character’s stories just didn’t quite come together particularly well.

Watch it only if you absolutely must. Also, Mickey Rourke’s smarter outfits are rather nice – so there’s that.

I SMILE BACK (2015): New Trailer Starring Josh Charles & Sarah Silverman As A Troubled Woman…

Funny woman Sarah Silverman has a new trailer and it’s not a comedy.

The last time I saw Silverman in a serious dramatic role, she was in Take This Waltz (2011).

This time round, she’s not a supporting actress but the lead. As such, if you’re a fan of her comedy, make sure you’re in the mood to watch a drama because you probably don’t want to find yourself disappointed because you’re wanting or expecting her to be funny.

Directed by Adam Salky, Josh Charles and Thomas Sadoski also star.

I Smile Back Release dates: October 23rd (2015) (US)…

ASHBY (2015): New Comedy, Promising Trailer

Ashby (2015), Mickey Rourke, Nat Wolffe
Ashby (2015), Mickey Rourke, Nat Wolffe

A good looking comedy starring Emma Roberts and Nat Wolffe is coming.

What I like most is the idea of Mickey Rourke in a comedy role. Sarah Silverman’s involvement is also  a plus but the thing I wish wasn’t the case is the length of the of this trailer, in relation to how much of the plot it reveals.
