Read my spoiler-free movie review of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

I’m a Guy Ritchie fan, thanks to his first two big hit films, Lock Stock & Two smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000).

Fast forward to present-day 2015, and the release of his latest movie, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will soon be upon us. There’s plenty going on in the trailer and I for one am quite intrigued.

Starring Henry Cavill (a.k.a. Superman), Alicia Vikander, Armie Hammer, Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Debicki; I’m going to trust in Ritchie’s track record of great style, storytelling and witty dialogue.

Nevertheless, just to be safe, I’ll have my fingers crossed in hopes of an absence of dodgy accents.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E Release Dates: August 14th, 2015 (US & UK)…

THE LITTLE DEATH (2014): A Most Pleasant Surprise

The Little Death (2014), Josh Lawson, Bojana Novakovic
The Little Death (2014), Josh Lawson, Bojana Novakovic

Josh Lawson is the writer/director of one of the funniest films I’ve seen recently.

Starring Lawson himself, Bojana Novakovic, Ben Lawson, Kate Mulvany, T.J. Power and Kate Box, The Little Death is a modern sex comedy based on the lives of five suburban couples living in Sydney, Australia.

Due to some clever storytelling and a well-chosen soundtrack, by the time the credits start rolling for The Little Death, you will find yourself not quite ready for the stories of each of the couples featured in the movie to come to an end.

Watch it because it’s good; to learn a few things about the sexual peculiarities of the human and because you’re in the mood to laugh. You’ll very likely also be inspired to work harder on becoming a more effective communicator in your relationships. See for yourself.

Here’s my favourite song on the soundtrack. Sleeping at last-‘Light’

ROCK THE KASBAH (2015): Interesting New Comedy Set In Afghanistan…

Rock The Kasbah (2015), Bill Murray
Rock The Kasbah (2015), Bill Murray

I may be showing my age, but I’ve never properly understood why everyone seems to think that Bill Murray is so very cool.

Not to say that he isn’t, but it does look like his latest film Rock The Kasbah will likely help me to finally understand the appeal.

Bruce Willis, Zooey Deschanel, Kate Hudson and Danny McBride also star. The trailer doesn’t reveal very much but it does have promise and so, I’m open to learning.

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (2014): Your Stunning Audio Visual Feast Awaits…

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), Tony Revolori, Ralph Feinnes
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), Tony Revolori, Ralph Feinnes

Written/directed by Wes Anderson, The Grand Budapest Hotel is a dramatic comedy/adventure that stars Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Mathieu Amalric, Jude Law, Edward Norton and two great young actors by the name of Tony Revolori and Saoirse Ronan.

Anderson’s film is a wonderful feast of good and humorous storytelling that features rich, colourful cinematography and great dialogue.

Every line that comes out of the mouth of Monsieur Gustave – who is excellently played by Ralph Fiennes is delivered with such expert comic timing, that upon second viewing I could barely look at anyone else. The same can be said for every move made by M. Gustave.

Oddly enough, the first couple of times I tried to watch The Grand Budapest Hotel, I stopped within ten minutes of starting. I just couldn’t get into the swing of it at first.

Having now seen the film more than once, please don’t let the initial slow-ish pace at the beginning dissuade you, for things get most interesting as soon as Monsieur Gustave is introduced, ten minutes in. That’s when the adventure truly begins. Watch it, see and enjoy.

EX MACHINA (2015): Vikander’s Portrayal Will Leave You Wanting More…

Ex Machina (2015), Alicia Vikander
Ex Machina (2015), Alicia Vikander

Ex Machina comes from writer/director, Alex Garland, and stars the talented Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac.

I honestly don’t want to say too much about this rather note-worthy film, except that you should watch it because you’ll have no regrets afterwards. Ex Machina is a sci-fi drama about artificial intelligence. It’s a film with three key characters, one of whom is a beautiful and very smart female A.I.

Ex Machina is well-written and delivers many tension-filled moments to keep you locked in; moments that happen to be brilliantly partnered with just the right musical score.

You will get to the end and want to know immediately when the sequel is coming. Sadly, I don’t have the answer to that question. Nor do I have any knowledge of whether a sequel is even planned. But, surely, live in hope, we must.

Happy Film Loving,
