Stevan Riley is the director of Listen To Me Marlon, a new documentary about celebrated Hollywood actor Marlon Brando – and the trailer looks fantastic.

Amongst other great roles, Brando is the man responsible for doing an exceptional job of bringing author Mario Puzo’s character of The Godfather to life in the Francis Ford Coppola directed 1972 classic of the same name.

I know that Listen To Me Marlon is going to be great, especially for lovers of documentary film/biography, fans of very talented actors, those curious about the human condition – and of course, the brilliance of Brando himself and his works.

I really can’t wait to see this. Congratulations to the person(s) responsible for this trailer, for it is just excellent!

THE MARTIAN (2015): Another Space Sci-Fi Hit Is Coming…

The new film from Ridley Scott, director of many hit films including Gladiator (2000) stars Matt Damon and it looks amazing.

As excited as I undoubtedly am, something tells me I’m probably going to get my heart broken, and by that I don’t mean I’ll be disappointed but that something similar to the end of 1998’s Armageddon might happen.

I’d of course much rather be pleasantly surprised than have that particular theory come to fruition.

Then again, on the other hand, whatever it takes for the film to be great is what I really, really want. As such, I surrender.

Bring on November!

BAREFOOT (2014): The Good & Bad Things…

Barefoot (2014), Scott Speedman, Evan Rachel Wood
Barefoot (2014), Scott Speedman, Evan Rachel Wood

In Barefoot, Scott Speedman is the ‘black sheep’ of a wealthy family. At the heart of the story is an unexpected romance that blossoms after he meets a psychiatric patient played by Evan Rachel Wood.

The plot is certainly interesting. It’s just unfortunate that I didn’t find myself connecting enough with the two protagonists. I felt aware the whole time and especially in the beginning that I was watching Evan Rachel Wood playing a psychiatric patient, rather than getting swept into the world of the story.

Directed by Andrew Fleming, Barefoot also stars J.K. Simmons and Kate Burton – both of whom I adore. However, I’m afraid even they couldn’t save the film. Besides a few good songs on the soundtrack, for me, there are minimal notable highlights.

I’d sooner recommend watching something like Silver Linings Playbook (2012) instead because like Barefoot, it’s a romantic drama/comedy about two misfits with unique problems who end up falling in love – and it’s certainly far more convincing.

Barefoot, watch it, only if you really must 🙂

LILA & EVE (2015): Viola Davis Stars, Therefore I Must Make Time…

Lila & Eve (2015), Jennifer Lopez, Viola Davis
Lila & Eve (2015), Jennifer Lopez, Viola Davis

Lila and Eve is directed by Charles Stone III and stars Jennifer Lopez and the Viola Davis.

Lopez and Davis play two women who decide to take matters into their own hands after the system fails them, following the murder of their sons in drive-by shootings.

I know I’m super ready to see great performances from both actors. Does this one intrigue you?

THE WALK (2015): New Trailer In Which Joseph Gordon-Levitt Is Philippe Petitte…

THE WALK (2015), Joseph Gordon-Levitt
THE WALK (2015), Joseph Gordon-Levitt

The Walk is the new Robert Zemeckis-directed biography/drama based on French high-wire artist Philippe Petit.

The international cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley,  Charlotte Le Bon, James Badge Dale and Ben Schwartz.

What appears to lie ahead is an exciting risk-taking adventure. Though, I’m not quite sure yet whether I’ll be able to completely suspend my disbelief when it comes to the French accent.

Still, somehow, the story of a man who chooses to walk on a wire from great heights and without any safety precautions is probably interesting enough to convince me. That is of course unless I opt for the 2008 documentary, Man on Wire instead.

Happy Film Loving,
