This time the focus is on the origin story of rebel warrior Furiosa, before she meets sand teams up with Mad Max.

Hello, beautiful chaos!

This great-looking vengeance movie trailer has me ready to see Taylor-Joy as the super angry heroine Furiosa. I’m excited to watch her journey to serve Dr. Dementus (Hemsworth in a prosthetic nose) his comeuppance.

There’s got to be no way this won’t deliver, right? Especially with such a talented cast and a wonderful trailer that has both visuals and moments of dialogue that have me yelping with delight and feeling grateful for my senses.

Furiosa: I want them back. I WANT THEM BACK!!!

Dr. Dementus: Where are you going, so full of hope? THERE IS NO HOPE!!!

Aren’t both lines just such perfect moments of dialogue? The first has me more than ready to see Furiosa execute her plans, and the second has me wondering if I’ll end up feeling a little sorry for Dementus. Especially after hearing the feeling in the brilliant way that Hemsworth delivers the above line.

No doubt I’ll take in this trailer plenty more times before the movie is released.

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Morena Baccarin are the stars of Deadpool and Wolverine; the third action/comedy/sci-fi instalment of the much loved Deadpool franchise.

Directed by Shawn Levy; Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool is the irresponsible hero, who’s due to change the history of the MCU with Wolverine.

Wow! I’m more excited than I thought I would be. Thank Heavens for all the actor-Ryans. It’s a Ryan-strong year, 2024, and I’m quite happy about it, actually.

As someone who doesn’t read comic books, I can’t wait for the surprise of how this Deadpool and Wolverine partnership is going to go. Deadpool may just be the only superhero movie franchise I’m not fatigued with. Let’s see how I’ll feel once ‘Marvel Jesus’ has done his thing.

How do you feel about this Deadpool/Wolverine pairing? I’m going to guess about as excited as a Reynolds and Jackman partnership, which is more than reasonably high, probably.

A Quiet Place – Day One follows writer/director John Krasinski’s drama/horror/sci-fi hits, A Quiet Place (2018) and A Quiet Place Part 2 (2020).

Co-written by Krasinski and directed this time by Michael Sarnoski; we finally get to learn about what happened the day the world went quiet.

I love that I had absolutely no idea this was on the way, let alone that it would star an actor as magnetic as Nyong’o.

I may end up terrified, but I’m ready for the action, story, visual effects, and hopefully answers to questions many A Quiet Place fans have had since the first movie.

Also, it’s still only month two, but 2024 is looking good for the volume of movies I’m excited about this year. Will you be watching to see if Nyong’o’s character makes it through?

PARADISE (2023): The Things I Liked…

A future in which individuals can sell years of their lives for a price is the compelling premise of Netflix’s latest action/sci-fi/thriller, Paradise.

Focusing on two characters who get caught up in the highly controversial system, the good news about Paradise is that it features quality performances and has some well-executed twists and turns. Plus, the first and last third of the movie are quite watchable. 

The problem with Paradise is that two-thirds in, I wanted to fast-forward. Reason being, even though I remained curious about how the story would end, I didn’t want to sit through the inadequately engaging middle third to find out. Things did eventually pick up, luckily, except for the two unnecessarily long shots towards the end which I definitely had to fast-forward.

What seems clear now is that, as per The Island (2005), In Time (2011) and now, Paradise, it is hard to make a great movie about a future time when an individual can sell their time/years of life for a price. I haven’t watched The Island or In Time, but I understand they have similar plotlines and the feedback for both films isn’t great. 

If you’re particularly curious, give Paradise a chance. Alternatively, wait for a future attempt at a better telling of this compelling story. If such a version already exists and I just don’t know, please do share.

Paradise stars a German cast that includes Kostja Ullmann, Marlene Tanczik, Lorna Ishema and Numan Acar.

I wasn’t sure about the new trailer for Paradise, Netflix’s latest action/sci-fi/thriller until approximately 30 seconds in. I blame that on initially just watching the action instead of also reading the text so I understood what was happening.

It’s certainly not a new concept, the idea that youth can be purchased. However, the catch this time is that the cost is far greater than just money.

I’m now super curious about how much detail the ‘science’ of it will reveal. For example, does the donor have to be super healthy? What if said donor is susceptible to a specific illness at some point in the future. Will the recipient of the donation also become susceptible? Also, the general question of how much time is enough comes to mind.

Something tells me I may be expecting too much from Paradise. Time to scale back my expectations. After all. This is not a documentary.

Does Paradise have your mind full of questions too? And how much of that curiosity is about how wonderful it would be to snatch another persons youth? Kidding!
