Kate Beckinsale, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Damson Idris and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s new film, Farming is not going to be an easy one to watch.

It’s the story of a young Nigerian boy, ‘farmed out’ by his parents to a white British family in the hope of a better future.

Based on writer/director Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s actual life, instead of things going as his parents dreamed, Akinnuoye-Agbaje becomes the feared leader of a white skinhead gang.

A beyond heartbreaking story that is, at the core, a tale of survival, I intend to watch this. I’ll just make sure I’m not already having a bad day when I do.

Knowing that Akinnuoye-Agbaje made it through is what makes me even more determined to dedicate the required time. I can’t wait to find out how he got to the other side of hate.

Jaime Winstone, John Dagleish, Theo Barklem-Biggs, Ann Mitchell, Genevieve Nnaji and Skye Lourie also star.

Farming Release Dates: October 11th, 2019 (UK)…

IRREPLACEABLE YOU (2018): It’s…

Irreplaceable You (2018), Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Irreplaceable You (2018), Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Regardless of how much I wished and hoped, Irreplaceable You which stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Michiel Huisman is not a good movie.  However sweet the premise of the love story may be, and as tragic as the story’s end is, the execution is simply not satisfying.

It’s odd to say this of a film about a young couple whose love story is cut short by terminal illness, but I kept thinking, where’s the heart, the soul? Why am I not connecting to this story – let alone the characters?

Overall, I don’t think I really bought much of what was happening throughout. My viewing session kept being interrupted by thoughts of ‘this is not great’ and ‘The Fault In Our Stars (2014)’ did a much better job of telling a similar story.

What I know for sure is that story editing, the writing, cliches, and perhaps insufficient chemistry between the two leads have something to do with why Irreplaceable You is disappointing. There were a few moments where I thought, ‘this is where it takes a turn and gets better,’ but it never did.

If I had to pick a thing or two I liked, I’d say the moment in Central Park during the ‘Did you know’ game, because I learned one or two things I didn’t already know.

There’s also Jacki Weaver. However small the part or disappointing the film, ‘Queen Weaver’ never seems to give a bad performance. I haven’t watched all her movies, of course, but I always buy everything she’s selling. The Voices (2014)for example.

The Fault in Our Stars (2014), definitely watch that instead. Really.

IRREPLACEABLE YOU (2018): New Trailer From Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michiel Huisman, Christopher Walken…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Irreplaceable You (2018).

Irreplaceable You is a Stephanie Laing-directed romance/comedy/drama about a couple for whom ’till death do us part’ is coming much sooner than expected.

Key cast includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michiel Huisman and Christopher Walken.

I’m in for the comedy and romance. No doubt I’m also going to ‘boohoo’ quite a bit. The story rather demands it.

I had no idea that I’d just been looking at Michiel Huisman of The Age of Adaline (2015) and Game of Thrones until 1:09 into this trailer. I guess the people behind the Superman story are correct, spectacles are quite the disguise.

Claire Holt, Jacki Weaver, Brian Tyree Henry, Tamara Tunie and SteveCoogan also star.

Irreplaceable You Release Dates: February 16th, 2018 (US)…

A WRINKLE IN TIME (2018): New Trailer From Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw…

Fantasy/adventure, A Wrinkle in Time is a story about a young girl called Meg. Meg is sent into space with her brother, a friend.

Together they must venture there to find Meg’s scientist father after his sudden disappearance. Directed by Ava DuVernay; A Wrinkle In Time stars Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Reasons to watch this movie include the story, which is completely new to me, the magic, the talented cast and the beautiful visuals.

I’m liking Winfrey as the voice of the narrator, as well as the hint of a vibe similar to Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz.

Mindy Kaling, Zach Galifianakis,  Michael Peña, Bellamy Young and André Holland also star.

A Wrinkle In Time Release Dates: March 9th, 2018 (US), 23rd March, 2018 (UK)…

THE WHOLE TRUTH (2016): New Trailer From Keanu Reeves, Rene Zellweger, Gugu Mbatha-Raw…

The Whole Truth is the latest movie directed by Courtney Hunt and stars Keanu Reeves, Rene Zellweger and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Essentially a courtroom drama, the story centres around the truth that’s yet to be revealed, in a story where a son is standing trial for the murder of his father. But should he be? That is the one of the questions.

I’m hoping that the payoff at the end is worth it. I say this because the cast is great, but is the overall story  execution worthy of the talent? I wish I felt more confident after watching this trailer. Here’s to hoping I get to eat my words.

The Whole Truth Release Dates: October 21st, 2016 (US)…
