A Quiet Place Part 2 sees the return of the Abbot family (Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds) as they learn that the creatures that hunt by sound aren’t the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

Directed by John Krasinski; additional key cast includes Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou, Wayne Duvall, Lauren-Ashley Cristiano…

I’m excited to see more ingenuity from the Abbots. I want to know the new and clever ways will they’ll think up to ensure their survival.

Also, I like the introduction of Murphy. My guess is that he’s probably not a ‘good guy…’ or is he?

Ashley Dyke, Andy Rich, Okieriete Onaodowan, Blake DeLong and Silas Pereira-Olson also star.

A Quiet Place Part 2 Release Dates: May 28th, 2021 (US); June 4th, 2021…

ANNA (2019): The Thing I Liked…

Anna (2019), Sasha Luss
Anna (2019), Sasha Luss

The story of writer /director Luc Besson’s Anna is one that I don’t completely regret watching but I certainly didn’t love it either.

Anna stars Sasha Luss as Anna Poliatova; a stunning beauty with impressive secret skills and strength. Qualities that make her one of the world’s most feared government assassins.

I sat down to watch Anna with mild expectations of the film probably having similarities to Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde (2017)The main difference I found between Anna and Atomic Blonde is that even though Anna is quite engaging overall, Anna unlike Atomic Blonde, left me feeling as though the whole experience was almost completely hollow. Very surface level and in some ways a tad silly.

It’s interesting because the acting wasn’t terrible. Therefore, I’m thinking the issue is the story edit which played a part in me having minimal emotional connection to Luss’s character’s journey. Of course I wanted her to win – always, but the the question of ‘why does this feel so frivolous?’ remained with me through to the very end.

Perhaps you’ll find Anna to be a better experience than I did. The fight scenes, though not the most polished I’ve ever seen, they are quite entertaining. Give it a chance and see if you’re especially curious. Or…

…watch Atomic Blonde instead.

Anna is writer /director Luc Besson’s story of Anna Poliatova; a striking beauty with a secret that will unleash her indelible strength and skill. Skills to become one of the world’s most feared government assassins.

Key cast includes Sasha Luss, Cillian Murphy, Helen Mirren, Luke Evans…

I wish that the weapon sound effects in this trailer didn’t sound quite so exaggerated. Especially for the moment at 1:10 when the neck slicing using two plate halves happens.

Regardless of my one gripe, this seems quite promising and I look forward to finding out how Anna compares to hit female assassin TV show Killing Eve (2018), Angelina Jolie’s Salt (2010) and Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde (2017).

Lera Abova, Alexander Petrov, Nikita Pavlenko, Anna Krippa, Aleksey Maslodudov, Eric Godon, Ivan Franek and Adrian Canalso star.

THE PARTY (2017): New Trailer From Kristin Scott Thomas, Timothy Spall, Emily Mortimer, Cillian Murphy, Patricia Clarkson…

The Party is a new drama / comedy that starts as a celebration and ends with blood on the floor. The film’s very talented cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Timothy Spall, Emily Mortimer, Cillian Murphy, Patricia Clarkson…

Watching this rather good trailer reminded me so much of how much I love this kind of film. The kind where adults are stuck in a relatively confined space and they’re forced to resolve any issues they may have with each other, usually resulting in brilliant comic moments. In case my description doesn’t paint a clear enough picture, watch Roman Polanski’s Carnage (2011), a film with great dialogue and a truly brilliant cast, not unlike this one.

Written and directed by Sally Potter; Bruno Ganz also stars.

The Party Release Dates: October 13th, 2017 (UK)…
