THE WILDE WEDDING (2017): The Thing I Liked…

The Wilde Wedding (2017), Patrick Stewart, Glenn Close.png

The Wilde Wedding, the Damian Harris written and directed movie about a retired actress who remarries for the fourth time had me feeling a tad disinterested immediately. Reason being, I found that I didn’t connect with the narrator at the beginning. I also felt there were too many characters, none of whom proved particularly interesting.

For me, this film just plodded along and I continued watching in hopes that things would improve. Especially considering the main cast  – John Malkovich, Patrick Stewart and Glenn Close.

I’m glad to say that things did get interesting and more dramatic somewhere past the halfway point. And I certainly didn’t anticipate the way it ended. However,  is it all enough for The Wilde Wedding to be a movie worth recommending? Not really. In my humble opinion,  It’s Complicated (2009) is more fun.

The thing that stood out most for me overall about this movie actually has nothing to do with the story, but rather the truth about one of the actors. I’m speaking of Australian actor Yael Stone, a.k.a. Lorna Morello from Orange Is The New Black. The lady is a wonderful actor especially in Orange Is The New Black and she’s clearly gifted with accents, for in this movie her character is very convincingly British.

THE WILDE WEDDING (2017): New Trailer From Glenn Close, Patrick Stewart, John Malkovich, Minnie Driver…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of The Wilde Wedding (2017).

From writer/director Damian Harris, The Wilde Wedding is a new comedy about a retired actress who gets married for the fourth time, to a renowned english writer.

Glenn Close, Patrick Stewart, John Malkovich and Minnie Driver are among the key cast.

First of all, to anyone who didn’t recognise Sir Patrick Stewart with hair, what kind of movie fan are you?

All jokes aside, I’ll be watching because the cast is great. There’s also the fact that this trailer looks good and reminds me so much of one of my favourites, It’s Complicated (2009).

Yael Stone, Peter Facinelli, Grace Van Patten and Noah Emmerich also make an appearance.

Starring Anna Faris, T.J. Miller, Patrick Stewart, Sofia Vergara and James Corden, the new The Emoji Movie trailer is here and it has Gene (Miller), a multi-expressional emoji, on a journey to become a normal emoji…

I thought that as an avid user of emojis on my themoviemylife Instagram in particular, that I’d somehow automatically like a movie about cute yellow emojis. I mean, how bad could it be? I was after all completely crazy about a particular bunch of gorgeous ‘joy inducing yellow beauties’;  the minions for quite some time. I may still be obsessed, actually.  I digress. I just wish that at this point I felt more confident about this Tony Leondis directed film. I don’t know…

The Emoji Movie Release Dates: July 28th, 2017 (US); August 3rd, 2017 (UK)…

LOGAN (2017): Great New Trailer From Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook…

Logan is the new Wolverine movie coming in March 2017. The trailer is mighty and stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook and Sienna Novikov.

Directed by James Mangold, Logan is set in  a time where the X-Men are no more (2024) and Logan (Wolverine) plus Professor Charles Xavier must find another way to save the world…

Trailer 1

Trailer 2

This Logan trailer is like no other superhero movie trailer I’ve ever seen and I love it! It represents difference that I hadn’t been fully aware of needing. It’s also a beautifully paced and scored emotional journey.

Some of my thoughts as everything unfolded include, ‘Wow! This is dark, kind of depressingly so’. Then I was moved by how well constructed the trailer is and I found myself even more taken-over with the joy of seeing Logan find reason to continue when he thought none existed.  Poetry, I tell you!  Now I just really want to see Wolverine and the X-Men do their thing.

Richard E. Grant, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Stephen Merchant and Eriq La Salle also star.

Logan Release Dates: March 2nd, 2017 (UK & GER); March 3rd, 2017 (US)…

GREEN ROOM (2015): New Trailer Starring Patrick Stewart & Imogen Poots

Green Room (2016), Imogen Poots

I like my sleep far too much to watch most horror movies, but something about the new teaser trailer for Green Room, the latest film starring Imogen Poots, Patrick Stewart and Anton Yelchin might just be too intriguing…

I think I’ll be ok as long as Green Room is more thriller/ slasher horror than anything else. On a brighter note, how wonderful is Patrick Stewart’s voice?

Green Room Release Date(s): April 15th, 2016 (US); 13th May, 2016 (UK); Jun 2nd, 2016 (GER)…

TED (2012): Silly, Filthy & Good

Ted (2012), Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane
Ted (2012), Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane

You wouldn’t be blamed if after hearing the concept of Ted, your reaction was ‘Really? Please!

But then you learn a little more and realise that the movie is  the brainchild of Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy. He not only stars as the voice of Ted but directed and wrote it too.

Fans of the very successful Family Guy series would be the most excited just a little more perhaps, than fans of general good humour – particularly humour  that’s silly and filthy in parts.

Also starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, there’s plenty of funny dialogue. One of the key highlights for me is Donny, the character played by Giovanni Ribisi and his highly peculiar dance moves.

Lastly, who could forget the scene with all the ‘white trash’ names listed by Mark Wahlberg’s character?

‘Mandy, Marylyn, Tiffany, Candace, Brandy, Heather Channing, Brianna, Amber Sabrina, Melody, Dakota, Ciara, Bambi, Christal, Samantha, Autumn, Ruby, Taylor, Tara Tammy, Lauren, Charlene, Chantal, Courtney, Misty, Jenny, Christa, Mindy, Noel, Shelby, Trina, Riba, Cassandra, Nikki, Kelsy, Shauna, Jolene, Earlene, Claudia, Savannah, Casey, Dolly, Kendra, Kylie, Chloe, Devon, Emma-Lou, Becky, Brandy-Lyn, Heather-Lyn, Tammy-Lyn.’

Looking forward to watching the sequel, Ted 2 (2015) in a few days.
