The Meyerowitz Stories – New & Selected (2017), Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller
Starring Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson and Adam Sandler; The Meyerowitz Stories – New & Selected is the latest from writer/director Noah Baumbach.
Stiller, Hoffman, Sandler and Thompson play members of an estranged family that gathers in New York for an event celebrating the artistic work of their father.
I particularly like the idea of Stiller, Sandler and Hoffman performing together. I’m also in for the family dynamics that’ll undoubtedly result in interesting conflict; not that I necessarily like to see family members fight, you understand.
My instincts, after watching the trailer for The Assignment, the latest film from Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver, were correct. By which I mean, it’s not very good. In fact, The Assignment is one of those movies you should probably watch if at all, whilst doing something else. Because you may find yourself mad for not respecting your time enough if you give it your full attention.
Directed by Walter Hill, the story centres around a hitman (Rodriguez) who is turned into a hit woman (Rodriguez), without prior consent. Therefore, vengeance must follow against ‘The Doctor’ (Weaver) responsible.
I know, I know, the clue about how this film would turn out is in the trailer – but something still had me tuning in, and that is the interesting plot. If only it could have been executed more effectively.
The Assignment (2016), Sigourney Weaver
An important question at this point is probably whether The Assignment is one of those films that’s so bad it’s good? No is my answer to that. With most bad films that I find myself able to sit through until the end, there’s usually some semblance of good within. In this case, that would be Sigourney Weaver’s character, ‘The Doctor.’ As dodgy as most of the dialogue is, she had a few lines that amused me. One of them being:
‘I’ve never concerned myself with my partner’s pleasure.’
With that line, what she means is exactly what you think she means.
The Assignment is the latest crime/action/thriller starring Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver and Tony Shalhoub.
Having fallen into the hands of a rogue surgeon known as ‘The Doctor’, hitman Frank Kitchen is turned into a hitwoman, and naturally, revenge follows, of course.
Is the concept of The Assignment interesting, ridiculous or both? I want it to be good but I can’t say that this trailer gives me plenty of confidence. Especially once the sound editor became trigger happy with those trailer sound effects from 53 seconds in.
If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to see and hear Liam Neeson playing a tree, today’s trailer is for you.
A Monster Calls is about a young boy who seeks the help of a tree to deal with what is arguably the most difficult experience of his life, his single mother’s terminal illness.
At this point, it should be no secret that I absolutely LOVE Liam Neeson’s voice. Nevertheless, the main reason I’m curious about this one is that I can’t imagine how the tree will be able to help, but I am open to finding out.
Ghostbusters (2016), Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon
A proper trailer has finally arrived for the Ghostbusters reboot. Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig are the stars.

I enjoyed the hat, wig and glasses combo. I Also liked the delivery of the slaps and MacKinon’s yellow lensed glasses. Beyond that though, I’m going to wait and see.
Also, is it just me or do the special effects seem rather dated?
