Maya Angelou – And Still I Rise (2016), Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou – And Still I Rise is the new feature length documentary about one of the world’s most remarkable women.
Actress, writer, dancer, poet, activist and an inspiration to millions from all over.
Angelou’s story is one I’d love to know even more about, since I’m sure it will only continue to have a positive impact on my life. I envisage an increase in sales of her book, I Know Why A Caged Bird Sings post-release.
The first trailer for Dunkirk, the new movie directed by the rightly celebrated writer/director, Christopher Nolan has landed.
Teaser trailer
Trailer 1
Generally speaking, war movies aren’t my favourite genre of film but I’ll probably try anything once if Nolan is at the helm. This teaser trailer is great for the first look. A look that left my heart threatening to exit my chest by the end. Trailer one reminds me of what makes great trailers.
The stars of the movie include recent Nolan regulars Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy. Then there’s Mark Rylance and Harry Styles. What a gift it must be for one’s first movie to be directed by someone at the level of Nolan. If I were in the position of Mr. Styles, I don’t think I could ever get over such a thing, regardless of how small my part might be.
Dunkirk Release Dates: July 19th, 2017 (FR); July 21st, 2017 (US & UK); July 27th, 2017 (GER)…
Andrew Garfield is the star of Mel Gibson’s latest film, Hacksaw Ridge.
Garfield plays real-life WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, a man who joins the army but refuses to kill people.
I don’t know what the word is for how this trailer makes me feel, but I know I’ll have to be in the right mood to sit and watch.
This trailer gives off a kind of Forrest Gump (1994) quality but somehow manages to pull even harder at the heartstrings; all of which makes me think that the end product is going to be, dare I say, overly sappy.
Perhaps I’d be more intrigued had the trailer not revealed so much. All that has been left out of this trailer appears to be the presentation of the Medal of Honour. As continues to be the case, I find myself missing the good trailers of the past that cleverly showed you only enough but never too much.
My favourite Mel Gibson-directed movie will likely always be Apocalypto (2006).
Sam Worthington, Ryan Corr, Luke Bracey, Vince Vaughn and Hugo Weaving also star.
A Tale Of Love & Darkness (2016), Gilad Kahana, Natalie Portman
A Tale Of Love & Darkness is the new drama starring/directed by Natalie Portman and based on the memoir of Amos Oz.
Oz is a journalist, writer and advocate of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The filmtells the story of Oz who grew up in Jerusalem in the years before Israeli statehood with Arieh.
The subject matter is interesting, and I’m a Natalie Portman fan, which means I want to watch this. However, I’m not sure if it’ll be as good as I’d love it to be.
Not to judge a book by its cover, of course. However, this trailer edit and the textual interruptions (not the subtitles) in a rather ill-advised font have left something to be desired.
I was hoping to be more excited by Portman’s directorial debut than I am. May this be better than Jane Got A Gun (2016),the last movie I watched that she starred in.
Starring Joel Edgerton, Michael Shannon and Ruth Negga, the title of todays movie, Loving isn’t just symbolic because of the nature of the story. It’s also poetic for it’s the surname of the key protagonists Richard and Mildred Loving.
Loving tells the story of the interracial couple whose 1967 court case (Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1) led to the end of all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.
I’m looking forward to a well-executed story, an important one in the fight for progress and equality.
Directed by Jeff Nichols; Bill Camp, Nick Kroll, Terry Abney and Christopher Mann also star.
Loving Release Dates: November 4th, 2016 (US); February 3rd, 2017 (UK); February 15th, 2017 (FR)…
