I confess that I am one of those people who watched the Despicable Me movies purely for the Minions. Imagine my joy at the news that a Minion movie was on the way, for summer 2015. Aaaaaaaahhhh!

Something tells me that I’m not the only grown-up who exhibits signs of pure uncontrollable glee at the sight of the beloved Minions. Seriously, who can possibly resist the most adorable, yellow, happiness-inducing and banana-loving beauties?

Here’s the latest trailer.

Bring on the yellow gorgeousness!

I was only mildly intrigued before, but the great new Super Bowl trailer for director Matthew Vaughn’s Kingman – The Secret Service has convinced me to watch the film.

It does help that Kingsman is written by Jane Goldman, whose other writing credits include Kick-Ass (2010) and X-Men First Class (2011).

As excited as I am, so far, there’s just  one thing that doesn’t sit well with me about this trailer – and that is the claim by Alex Zane of the UK’s Sun newspaper, that Kingman – The Secret Service  is More Badass Than Bond.’

It’s incredibly hard for me to believe that there’s any other British spy movie more badass than Daniel Craig’s James Bond. Impossible, quite frankly. I shan’t entertain such an assertion. But I will watch this film, because it looks fantastic.

The trailer for Child 44 is the reason I was yelping with uncontrollable joy today.

Deservedly, there’s been some talk about the authenticity of the Russian accents. As for me, I’m hoping for the best and I’m happy to watch the talented cast, including Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Vincent Cassel and Noomi Rapace do their thing.

I can’t wait to see this very interesting story unfold.

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY (2013): Inspiration For Living

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013), Ben Stiller
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013), Ben Stiller

Walter Mitty is a man who has numerous vivid daydreams about everything he wishes he could be at a given moment but never is.

Directed by funny man, Ben Stiller, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty takes you along on a journey that leads to a point where Walter, as the movie poster suggests, stops dreaming and starts living.

This is definitely an entertaining watch and becomes most interesting and fun from the moment Walter meets the bearded and intoxicated giant (one of my favourite characters). It makes sense that the film becomes especially engaging at this point, because it’s soon after Walter decides to be adventurous, brave, and start living.

For those who realise/feel like they haven’t done much that’s considered noteworthy and want to change that, Stiller’s movie is great inspiration for formulating a plan and taking action.

One of my own dreams was to go to New York. I’d been forever curious for many years. So, finally making that particular wish come true was truly super.

Watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty for the fun adventure with a handful of entertaining characters. It’s almost a guarantee that you’ll find yourself inspired.

STARRED UP (2013): Super Trailer, Even Better Film…

Starred Up (2013), Jack O'Connell
Starred Up (2013), Jack O’Connell

It’s always exciting when you look into the eyes of the character an actor is portraying and it’s immediately clear that you’re about to experience something more than interesting.

I first saw Jack O’Connell in the very well-edited and scored trailer for this movie, Starred Up, and within seconds, I just knew.

Director David Mackenzie’s film also stars a great Australian actor who had me believing he was British thanks to his flawless accent; ladies and gentlemen, Ben Mendelsohn.

Starred Up is a brilliantly executed film that follows an explosively violent young man, Eric Love, from the day he’s transferred from a juvenile institution, to the adult prison where his father also happens to reside. Watching the father son relationship really helps answer the most important question for me, and that’s how it is that Eric came to be where he is.

As is often the case in horror movies, because Starred Up is, in a way just that, you’ll find yourself wanting Eric to make it out of jail, in one piece and as soon as possible.

Part of the magic that makes Starred Up so good is the fact that at no point as you watch the film are you actually ever really sure that the young Love will make it. In fact, as time goes on, such a prospect appears more and more unlikely, which makes for a very tense, gritty and memorable viewing experience.

If you didn’t already believe that ending up in jail is really best avoided, this movie will convince you, once and for all. Especially if you’re a teenager. Also, as you continue to watch, the idea that your own parents might not be so bad after all may come to mind more than once.

Every single performance in Starred Up is great. What a brilliant choice casting O’Connell proved to be. Watch this movie for the ‘realness’ and O’Connell’s excellence.  What I know for sure is that from this moment on I’m a massive fan.

Happy Film Loving,

G
