Co-written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, the new drama/thriller The Social Reckoning is the official sequel to 2010’s rather impressive drama/biopic The Social Network. A movie about the story of Facebook and its infamous founder, Mark Zuckerberg.

The new instalment, which stars Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison, Betty Gilpin and Jeremy Strong, follows Frances Haugen, a young Facebook engineer, who went to The Wall Street Journal to blow the whistle on Facebook’s most guarded secrets.

‘Please, please, let me quote that.’

Jeremy Strong wouldn’t be my first choice to play Zuckerberg, based on appearance alone. Nevertheless, I’ve seen so much personally exciting casting lately. And I’m just thrilled by several of the names listed for this movie.

I’m excited about this role for Mikey Madison, Best Actress Oscar winner for Anora (2024). I’m always very pleased to see Bill Burr (or ‘Billy Burry,’ as I like to refer to him in my mind affectionately). He is on my top five list of favourite comics, after all. A list that also includes Chris Rock, who wrote and starred in the movie Top Five (2014). I digress.

The two Jeremys are also great.

I like that the music at the end of this trailer features quite prominently in a very significant scene or two in The Social Network (2010). All that’s left to do is hope I find this film close to as impressive as its predecessor.

Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Magnussen, Patrick Fischler, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Anna Lambe, Portia Doubleday, Nelson Franklin, Sierra Capri, Nathan Witte and Kelley Pereira also star.

OFFICE ROMANCE (2026): The Things I Liked…

I had a good time watching Jennifer Lopez, Brett Goldstein and Betty Gilpin’s latest romantic comedy, Office Romance, a story about an airline CEO who begins a policy-breaking romance with a new employee.

Directed by Ol Parker, Office Romance doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it does offer a refreshing soundtrack, a watchable story, and several laugh-out-loud moments. As someone who enjoys watching impressive, capable women on screen, it’s no surprise that I found it an easy watch.

The fact that there haven’t been enough new romantic comedy movies made in recent years may mean that I’m out of practice, but, somewhat surprisingly, I wasn’t able to guess key elements of the ending until they unfolded. So, a deserved point is due for the writing. 

When forced to pick just one thing that Office Romance does most impressively, I’d say it’s bringing together such a wonderfully magnetic cast. I mean, I’ve always enjoyed Lopez in such roles, like Goldstein because of Ted Lasso (2020-), adore Gilpin thanks to The Hunt (2020), Tony Hale because of Veep (2012-2019), and Malik Elassal due to this superb 12:44 minutes, plus X Mayo from season 3, episodes 2 and 4-8 of Loot 2022-).

Truth be told, Made in Manhattan (2002) and The Wedding Planner (2001) may still be my favourite Lopez romantic comedy films, but for me, Office Romance isn’t too far behind.

Chris Pratt, Sam Richardson, Betty Gilpin and Yvonne Strahovski are the stars of The Lego Movie (2014) director Chris McKay’s new action/adventure/sci-fi The Tomorrow War.

The promising trailer has Pratt as Dan, a family man tasked with annihilating a future threat to humanity’s very existence.

I’m in for the Pratt brand of charm and action. Also, Gilpin appears to be in the wife/mother role for this one. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’m hoping she gets to kick some alien behind. Especially since she was so great in The Hunt (2020).

J.K. Simmons, Seychelle Gabriel, Alan Trong, Jasmine Mathews, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Keith Powers, Mike Mitchell, Chibuikem Uche and Felisha Terrell also star.

Hello, interesting movie premise!

I’m in to see Pratt in an action movie role; the kind that seems to have strong Tom Cruise vibes. Perhaps it’s just the shot at 16 seconds into this trailer that has me making the Cruise connection.

Also, there’s Gilpin. I feel as though her character is going to be quite the badass. If you’ve seen The Hunt (2020), then you know that she’s great at that.

Betty Gilpin’s smart and badass character Crystal is my favourite thing about director Craig Zobel’s The Hunt; the most controversial near release of 2019.

Also starring Hilary Swank, Justin Hartley and Emma Roberts; Zobel’s story centres around twelve strangers who get kidnapped for the specific purpose of being hunted.

The Hunt‘s original 2019 release date was cancelled because following the launch of the trailer, America was unfortunately having to deal with another mass shooting. Additional complaints also came to light about the movie’s presumed controversial politics, concerning the relationship between the left and right.

I do remember the filmmakers being happy to delay the movie’s release. Having now watched it, I can see why they insisted that The Hunt isn’t as problematic, premise and politics-wise, as many were assuming. Any talk of politics in the movie is mainly amusing. The real fun begins as we start learning more and more about Gilpin’s Crystal.

The Hunt isn’t the kind of movie to get top marks for story or all-around great acting, where one or two earlier characters are concerned. But that doesn’t mean I won’t watch it again. For me, there’s simply too much fun to be had with Crystal.
