GREYHOUND (2020): The Thing I Liked…

Greyhound (2020), Tom Hanks, Sony Pictures Entertainment
Greyhound (2020), Tom Hanks, Sony Pictures Entertainment

Though brief and relegated strictly to the start, I did find myself moved by the romance at the beginning of Tom Hank’s latest war drama, Greyhound.

Past this almost throwaway moment in the movie, everything else that takes place in director Aaron Schneider’s World War II film happens at sea. For Greyhound is a story that focuses on US Navy captain Ernest Krausemust, as he leads an allied convoy being stalked by Nazi U-boat wolf packs.

As you might imagine, there are plenty of tense moments that will make it hard to look away from the screen. Moments that show us how tough a captain’s job is as he tries to avoid getting his ship and all his men blown up.

The acting is of course, faultless. However, I can’t deny that the visuals of the grey ships on the Atlantic; visuals that lasted for approximately 95 per cent of the movie had me yearning for difference.

Greyhound is one you watch because you love Hanks and you’re curious about just how well-executed the tense moments are. Outside of that, I’m almost certain you’d enjoy Hanks’s other film that’s set at sea much more. I’m of course speaking of Captain Phillips (2013).

GREYHOUND (2020): New Trailer From Tom Hanks, Elisabeth Shue, Stephen Graham…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Greyhound (2020).

Greyhound is a new war drama starring Tom Hanks, Elisabeth Shue and Stephen Graham.

Directed by Aaron Schneider and co-written by Hanks, it’s the story of World War II US Navy skipper Ernest Krausemust. A man who must lead an Allied convoy being stalked by Nazi U-boat wolf packs.

I’m in because it’s Hanks and I want to see how Commander Ernest Krausemust, and hopefully many of his men end up making it out alive.

Also, the last time Hanks played a character at sea in Captain Phillips (2013), I had a great time.

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Karl Glusman, Maximilian Osinski, Matthew Zuk, Lee Norris, Tom Brittney, Rob Morgan, Grayson Russell, Devin Druid, Dave Davis, Michael Benz and Craig Tate also star.

A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD (2019): New Trailer From Tom Hanks, Matthew Rhys, Susan Kelechi Watson, ENRICO COLANTONI…

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019), Tom Hanks
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019), Tom Hanks

A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood is a new Marielle Heller-directed drama/biography that focuses on iconic American TV host Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks). Particularly his friendship with journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys).

Personally, I can find zero reasons for not watching this. I already adore Mr Hanks, and Mr Rogers is, according to most, if not all, who knew of him, a big ball of happiness.

Susan Kelechi Watson, Enrico Colantoni, Chris Cooper, Wendy Makkena, Tammy Blanchard, Maddie Corman, Sakina Jaffrey, Kitty Crystal and Noah Harpster also star.

A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood Release Dates: November 22nd, 2019 (US); December 6th, 2019 (UK)…

TOY STORY 4 (2019): New Trailer From Tom Hanks, Annie Potts, Patricia Arquette, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack…

Toy Story 4 is about how big the world can be for a toy, especially after a new toy called ‘Forky’ joins Woody and the gang, leading to a road trip with old and new friends.

Directed by Josh Cooley; key cast includes Tom Hanks, Annie Potts, Patricia Arquette, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack.

This is a lovely teaser trailer. One that ends with the comforting sound of Tom Hanks’ voice as Woody.

I only vaguely recall the previous Toy Story films. Clearly time for a re-watch.

Laurie Metcalf, Kristen Schaal, Jodi Benson and Bonnie Hunt also star.

Toy Story 4 Release Dates: June 21st, 2019 (US & UK)…

THE POST (2017): New Trailer Starring Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Sarah Paulson…

The Post (2017), Tom Hanks

Directed by Steven Spielberg and inspired by true events, The Post tells the story of the cover-up that spanned four U.S. Presidents, and pushed the country’s first female newspaper publisher (Meryl Streep) and a hard-driving editor (Tom Hanks) to begin a journalistic battle against the government.

I didn’t realise I missed Streep so much until I saw her turn around in this trailer. I’m of course going to be watching because of her and Hanks. There’s also my curiosity about all the sexist nonsense that will be directed at her character, Kay Graham.

Sarah Paulson, Carrie Coon, Bradley Whitford, Bob Odenkirk, Matthew Rhys, Zach Woods and David Cross also star.

The Post Release Dates: January 12th, 2018 (US), January 19th, 2018 (UK)…
