JUMBO (2020): New Trailer From Noémie Merlant, Emmanuelle Bercot, Bastien Bouillon…

Jumbo (2020), Noémie Merlant
Jumbo (2020), Noémie Merlant

Jumbo is the story of Jeanne, a shy young woman who’s fascinated with carousels. Her life changes suddenly after an encounter with the new flagship attraction in the amusement park where she works.

Written/directed by Zoé Wittock; Jumbo stars Noémie Merlant, Emmanuelle Bercot, Bastien Bouillon and Sam Louwyck.

I vaguely recall watching a documentary clip about Objectophilia (a form of sexual or romantic attraction focused on particular inanimate objects) and learning that many of those with the inclination are often subconsciously trying to avoiding getting hurt. I’m in to see how Jumbo tackles this very interesting topic.

Barbara Hellemans, Jonathan Bartholmé, Eduard Nemcsenko and Tracy Dossou also star.

MISSING LINK (2019): The Things I Liked…

Missing Link (2019), Hugh Jackman
Missing Link (2019), Hugh Jackman

Missing Link, the story of Mr Link (a Big-Foot-like character) and his adventures with explorer Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman), plus adventurer Adelina Fortnight is an animated movie I found to be fun in parts and watchable.

The reason I’m not more enthused by writer/director Chris Butler’s film is that story-wise, it felt oddly superficial and more basic than I expected.

What I did enjoy are the interactions between Lionel and Link, plus the moments of heart, most of which happen in the more engaging last quarter. Emma Thompson’s character is another welcome highlight, and it proved quite satisfying to see Lionel’s growth/evolution as the story continued.

I watched Missing Link because the cast which also includes Zoe Saldana and Zack Galifianakis intrigued me. Yet, overall, I wish I could include Butler’s film on my list of favourite animated movies I’ve seen in recent years, but I cannot. Nevertheless, I say give Missing Link a chance if you’re particularly curious. It may just be what you need when you’re after an easy-viewing animated film experience.

AMEND – THE FIGHT FOR AMERICA (2021): New Trailer For Documentary About The 14th Amendment, and Starring Will Smith, Diane Lane, Joshua Jackson…

Amend - The Fight for America (2021), Will Smith, Netflix
Amend – The Fight for America (2021), Will Smith, Netflix

Hosted by Will Smith, Amend – The Fight for America is a new series that offers a look at the evolving, often lethal, fight for equal rights in America; through the lens of the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment.

Created by Robe Imbriano and Tom Yellin; additional key cast includes Diane Lane, Mahershala Ali, Laverne Cox, Joshua Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson and Aja Naomi King.

I couldn’t help but think of Ava DuVernay’s 13th (2016) as this played. For it’s a very informative and useful documentary about the history of racial inequality in the the United States prison system.

I’m not expecting this to be quite as eye-opening as 13th, but I am looking forward to learning a thing or two, and seeing the various ways all the famous people involved will be contributing.

Randall Park, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bobby Cannavale, Rafael Casal, Whitney Cummings, Sterling K. Brown, and many more also star.

Amend – The Fight for America Release Dates: February 17th, 2021, Netflix, (US)…

I CARE A LOT (2020): New Trailer Starring Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage, Eiza González, Dianne Wiest…

I Care a Lot (2020), Rosamund Pike, Amazon Prime Video

Read my spoiler-free movie review of  I Care a Lot (2021).

New crime/thriller, I Care a Lot is about a crooked legal guardian named Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike). A woman who drains the savings of her elderly wards; only this time she’s met her match, because Jennifer Peterson, her latest target is far more than what she appears.

Written/directed by J. Blakeson; additional key cast includes Dianne Wiest, Peter Dinklage, Eiza González, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Chris Messina.

Looks like Pike is returning to the type of unhinged character she seems to play so well; as demonstrated by her turn as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl (2014). And I have to say, I’m not mad about it one bit.

Seeing Marla get what she deserves is why I’ll be watching this. Fingers crossed it turns out great.

Lastly, while this trailer played, did you also suddenly think that a blunt bob cut might be a good idea?

Macon Blair, Alicia Witt, Damian Young, Nicholas Logan, Liz Eng, Celeste Oliva, Georgia Lyman, Moira Driscoll and Gary Tanguay also star.

I Care a Lot Release Dates: February 19th, 2021 (US), Amazon Prime Video…

Old (2021), Gael García Bernal, Universal Pictures

M. Night Shyamalan has a new thriller called Old, and it stars Rufus Sewell, Gael García Bernal, Alex Wolff and Thomasin McKenzie.

Getting older is scary enough. But for the process to be rushed by what looks like a decade within a day, that sounds super scary and fun to watch. I really hope this turns out great.

Embeth Davidtz, Eliza Scanlen, Abbey Lee, Alex Wolff, Ken Leung, Vicky Krieps, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Emun Elliott, Kathleen Chalfant, Matthew Shear, Alexa Swinton and Aaron Pierre also star.

Old Release Dates: July 23rd, 2021 (US)…
