SICARIO (2015): Trailer Of The Week, Starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Daniel Kaluuya…

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Sicario (2015).

In Mexico, Sicario means hitman. It is also the name of the new Denis Villeneuve-directed crime/mystery/drama about a ‘fish out of water’ FBI agent enlisted to fight the escalating war on drugs in Mexico, accompanied by a mysterious consultant.

With something of an End Of Watch (2012) vibe (which you know is a great thing if you’ve seen the Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena film); Sicario’s main stars include Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Daniel Kaluuya and Jon Bernthal.

Why trailer of the week? The execution that doesn’t give too much away, but just enough to get you excited. The excellent editing and that gloriously unsettling musical score, courtesy of Johann Johannsson.

I am mad excited for this one. I get the feeling that you are too.

Sicario Release Dates: October 2nd, 2015 (US); October 9th, 2025 (UK)…

LILA & EVE (2015): Viola Davis Stars, Therefore I Must Make Time…

Lila & Eve (2015), Jennifer Lopez, Viola Davis
Lila & Eve (2015), Jennifer Lopez, Viola Davis

Lila and Eve is directed by Charles Stone III and stars Jennifer Lopez and the Viola Davis.

Lopez and Davis play two women who decide to take matters into their own hands after the system fails them, following the murder of their sons in drive-by shootings.

I know I’m super ready to see great performances from both actors. Does this one intrigue you?

AMERICAN HUSTLE (2013): Exactly As I Thought

American Hustle (2013), Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale
American Hustle (2013), Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale

Directed by David O. Russell crime/drama American Hustle is good, and Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence plus Jeremy Renner are all great in their roles.

However, I did find myself not as hooked as the story unfolded – at least not early on.

It’s not that plenty wasn’t happening – and at a good pace. It’s likely that I just didn’t identify with or get especially attached to any of the characters. Things did improve, particularly at the moment ‘Edith’s veil’ comes down.

Watch it if you’re curious about the story of a con man trying to keep the upper hand and stay alive when forced to work with the FBI in 1970s New Jersey.

BLACK MASS (2015) Trailer 2, Looking forward To The Humour

Black Mass (2015), Johnny Depp

Trailer 2 for Black Mass, one of the year’s most promising films is here.

Featuring the brilliant acting talents of Johnny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch and Dakota Johnson, to name just a few, the story of James ‘ Whitey’ Bulger, south Boston’s most infamous violent criminal is looking like something no true film fan is going to want to miss. I can tell you agree.

After seeing this trailer, what’s suddenly very intriguing is the female characters. Particularly how much denial they were likely in. I guess we’ll all find out in 5/6 months.

I get the feeling that the soundtrack to this movie  is going to be memorable.

Black Mass Release Dates: September 18th, 2015 (US), November 25th, 2015 (UK)…

For all serious Tom Hardy fans, a promising cinematic feast is coming.

Legend, the Brian Helgeland-directed film has Hardy playing two characters. Namely Ronald and Reginald Kray, a.k.a. The Kray Twins – identical twin gangsters known for terrorising London in the 1950s and 1960s.

In a few months, the feast is coming. But first, an appetiser.
