I loved the teaser trailer for David O. Russell’s latest film Joy, when I saw it a few months ago. I’m happy to report that the latest trailer is the perfect tease and even more exciting.

Who doesn’t love to watch the perceived underdog take charge and silence the doubters with legendary action?

I’m looking forward to everything, including the comedy, dialogue and… absolutely everything!

Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez and Isabella Rossellini are the stars.

Release Date (s): December 25th, 2015 (US), January 1st, 2016 (UK)…

ALOHA (2015): The Good & Bad Things

Aloha (2015), Bradley Cooper
Aloha (2015), Bradley Cooper

Just before I saw the trailer for Aloha, starring Bradley Cooper, I was very much on a high after watching his deservedly Best Actor, Oscar nominated performance in American Sniper (2014).

The Aloha trailer didn’t look terrible. However, some of the dialogue didn’t sit as well as one would have liked. either As I watched the movie a few months later, the unfortunate truth of the dialogue did come to be, because there I was cringing in parts.

I found the romance between Emma Stone’s character and Brian Gilcrest (Cooper) quite forced and unconvincing. It didn’t help that Stone’s character was also rather annoying.

In director, Cameron Crowe’s efforts to capture the seemingly laid back pace of Hawaii, the pace of the movie suffered.

The few beautiful shots of Hawaii’s landscape in the beginning and all the scenes that feature Danny McBride are my favourite things. There were a few other good moments but not significant enough to make Aloha good or worth watching.

It’s all a big shame considering a very talented cast list that also  includes Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Bill Murray and Alec Baldwin.

You can give Aloha a chance if you’re curious, but you’re likely better off watching Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and/or Jerry Maguire (1996) instead.

BURNT (2015): Bradley Cooper Is A Troubled Chef In Dramatic New Trailer

Read my spoiler-free movie review of Burnt (2015).

A new chef movie is on the way in 2015.

Starring Bradley Cooper, Omar Sy, Emma Thompson, Sienna Miller and Lilly James, to name just a few, the story centres around Adam Jones (Cooper) who moves to London to start afresh after some bad decisions.

The trailer looks good and dramatic. Peculiarly, IMDb has categorised the film as a comedy. I guess the laughs have been saved for the film.

Burnt Release Dates:  October 18th 2015 (US), November 6th, 2015…

Find people you like working with and work with them whenever possible‘. These are words that probably came out of acclaimed Director David O. Russell’s mouth at some point, for here comes another movie starring his two favourite actors, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

Add Robert De Niro and you’ve got the cast of Silver Linings Playbook (2012), O’Russell’s Oscar-winning 2012 movie.

O’Russell’s latest biography/drama, Joy is the story of a family across four generations, and the woman who rises to become founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty.

Based on the trailer, it looks filled with trying times for the family but I’m looking forward to seeing Lawrence’s character make sweet, sweet lemonade out of it all.

AMERICAN HUSTLE (2013): Exactly As I Thought

American Hustle (2013), Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale
American Hustle (2013), Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale

Directed by David O. Russell crime/drama American Hustle is good, and Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence plus Jeremy Renner are all great in their roles.

However, I did find myself not as hooked as the story unfolded – at least not early on.

It’s not that plenty wasn’t happening – and at a good pace. It’s likely that I just didn’t identify with or get especially attached to any of the characters. Things did improve, particularly at the moment ‘Edith’s veil’ comes down.

Watch it if you’re curious about the story of a con man trying to keep the upper hand and stay alive when forced to work with the FBI in 1970s New Jersey.
