I Care a Lot (2020), Rosamund Pike, Amazon Prime Video

Read my spoiler-free movie review of I Care a Lot (2021).

New crime/thriller, I Care a Lot is about a crooked legal guardian named Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike). A woman who drains the savings of her elderly wards; only this time she’s met her match, because Jennifer Peterson, her latest target is far more than what she appears.

Written/directed by J. Blakeson; additional key cast includes Dianne Wiest, Peter Dinklage, Eiza González, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Chris Messina.

Looks like Pike is returning to the type of unhinged character she seems to play so well; as demonstrated by her turn as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl (2014). And I have to say, I’m not mad about it one bit.

Seeing Marla get what she deserves is why I’ll be watching this. Fingers crossed it turns out great.

Lastly, anyone else suddenly finds themselves considering a blunt bob cut as this trailer played?

Radioactive (2020), Rosamund Pike, Studio Canal UK

Directed by Marjane Satrapi, Radioactive stars Rosamund Pike, Anya Taylor-Joy and Aneurin Barnard.

Satrapi’s film is the biography of Marie and Pierre Curie; a pair whose scientific discovery of radium went on to win the Nobel Prize in 1903.

Before this trailer, I’d definitely heard of the Curies. I just couldn’t quite remember what their precise scientific accomplishments are. The shame!

Luckily, with the help of this movie, hopefully, I won’t forget again.

Simon Russell Beale, Sam Riley, Jonathan Aris, Corey Johnson, Mirjam Novak, Harriet Turnbull, Demetri Goritsas, Cara Bossom, Tim Woodward, Indica Watson and Peter Sztojanov Jr. also star.

In Brad Anderson-directed Beirut, Jon Hamm is a U.S. diplomat who flees Lebanon in 1972 after a tragic incident at his home.

Ten years pass and he’s called back to war-torn Beirut by CIA operatives to negotiate for the life of a friend he left behind.

Rosamund Pike and Shea Whigham also star.

I want to see this so I can have another film to add to my list of favourite Hamm performances. That is, of course, besides Mad Men (2007-2015) and Friends With Kids (2011).

7 Days in Entebbe (2018), Daniel Brühl, Rosamund Pike

7 Days In Entebbe tells the story of four hijackers who in 1976 forced a plane to land in Entebbe, Uganda. All in the effort to free the dozens of Palestinians jailed in Israel.

Rosamund Pike, Daniel Brühl and Eddie Marsan star while José Padilha directs.

Not that the stories are that similar but Steven Spielberg’s Munich (2005) came to mind as I watched this trailer. If this movie is as good as that, I’ll be delighted. Delighted, I tell you!
