Read my spoiler-free movie review of Chips (2017)

Starring Michael Peña, Kristen Bell, Dax Shepherd, Dax Shepherd and Maya Rudolph, CHIPS is a new comedy about the shenanigans of two Los Angeles Highway Patrol motorcycle officers.

Written/directed by Shepherd, I’m drawn to chips because they’re delicious… but, to be serious, I’m drawn to CHIPS because I enjoyed some of the jokes in the trailer.

Another reason would be that I’m still kind of chasing the excellent onscreen chemistry that Michael Peña had with Jake Gyllenhaal in what is still my favourite buddy/cop movie, probably always, End of Watch (2012). A great film that features the kind of brotherly love dreams are certainly made of.

I think it’s time to get excited about some cool and super serious gun-slinging action. I can tell you agree.

PELÉ (2016): New Trailer For The Story Of The Brazilian Football Legend…

Pelé (2016), Kevin de Paula
Pelé (2016), Kevin de Paula

A movie about the life story of Pelé, one of the world’s greatest football players has been made.

Written/directed by Jeff and Michael Zimbalist; Vincent D’Onofrio, Diego Boneta, Rodrigo Santoro and  Leonardo Lima Carvalho (10 year old Pelé) and  Kevin de Paula (15 year old Pelé) are the stars.

I’m looking forward to this one because greatness always commands attention. I have exactly zero aspirations to become a footballer but I know I’ll learn something.

Just think how skilled at football the actors in this movie had to be in order to be cast. Perhaps there are even some Pelé stunt performers involved.

Pelé Release Dates: May 6th, 2016 (US)…

RUN ALL NIGHT (2015): I tuned In For The Chase…

Run All Night (2015), Liam Neeson
Run All Night (2015), Liam Neeson

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra; there’s another reason I watched Run All Night, besides its New York mobster underworld setting and its stars, Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman. I appreciate how the title implies that the movie is essentially an all night chase sequence.

Run All Night does indeed feature an all night pursuit and you’ll find yourself holding your breath in several tension filled moments. Though, as satisfactory as the chases are, it was very much the less than ideal father/son relationship between Jimmy Conlon (Neeson) and his son Mike (Kinnaman) that kept me invested.

Having now seen Run All Night, my favourite movie chase sequences are still delivered by the Mel Gibson directed Apocalypto (2006) and Tony Scott’s Enemy Of The State (1998).

Watch Run All Night if you’re curious about the father son dynamic mentioned above and if you can’t get enough of films that feature Neeson protecting loved ones and taking down bad guys; something he did most brilliantly in Taken (2008).  Otherwise, for your fix of a recent New York City mobster underworld movie, you can’t go wrong with The Drop (2014).

Ed Harris, Boyd Holbrook, Genesis Rodriguez, Common and Bruce McGill also star in Run All Night.

Happy Film Loving,
