NOBODY WANTS THIS (2024): The Things I Loved…

As I sat down to watch Kristen Bell and Adam Brody’s latest comedy, Nobody Wants This, little did I know just how starved I had been for a well-written comedy about two people falling in love.

All it took was the first episode of creator Erin Foster’s ten-part series about a podcaster who falls in love with a rabbi to have me hooked.

I enjoyed said episode so much that I had to pause the series to take a moment to audibly express how happy I was to be watching something I was enjoying so very much. My precise words to myself (because I was home alone) were: ‘This is so good! Wow!’ Then, I said something similar on social media so that more people could get to it.

Part of the magic that makes Nobody Wants This a fun watch is the chemistry between the entire cast. But especially between the two leads. Bell’s Joanne and Brody’s Noah have personalities that click so well that you can’t help but root for them.

Essentially, the dialogue in Nobody Wants This is where the real magic begins. I love how funny and rooted in the modern experience the story is, and I’m forever here for the fun, engaging, thoughtful and mature way that Noah and Joanne communicate with each other.

Similarly to how I felt after the first five minutes of Casino Royale (2006), I hoped and wished the remaining nine episodes would be as well-executed as the first. Ultimately, I have my favourites. But, for me, Nobody Wants This is a delight from start to finish.

Treat yourself, if you haven’t already.

NOBODY WANTS THIS (2024): New Trailer Starring Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Sherry Cola…

Kristen Bell and Adam Brody are the stars of Nobody Wants This. A new comedy about an unexpected relationship between a loud agnostic woman and a rogue rabbi.

I’m not a gambling lady, but it’s clear how this is likely to end, especially if you’ve seen the likes of ‘You People (2023).‘ Nevertheless, I like Bell and Brody, plus, this does look quite fun.

As per some of the comments below the video on YouTube, Bell’s character in The Good Place 2016 came to mind for people, including me as this trailer played,

My mind also went to Bell’s husband Dax Shepherd’s very successful podcast, Armchair Expert, which I recommend for the thought-provoking conversations and good humour.

Emily Arlook, Stephen Schneider, Susan Elle, Jolie Natalia Handler, Eric Satterberg, Mariel Martinez, Ash Kahn and Al Carabello also star.

Nobody Wants This Release Dates: September 26th, 2024 (US & UK)…

FROZEN 2 (2019): The Things I Liked…

Frozen 2 (2019), Walt Disney Pictures

As a non-enthusiast when it comes to musical films, the main reason I wanted to see Frozen 2 had zero to do with the music. I was curious because of the animation style – especially when it comes to Elsa and her beautiful outfits. It turns out that both her style and the way she’s animated are two of my favourite things about Frozen 2.

Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck’s film became most engaging for me approximately one hour in. This is precisely at the point when Elsa’s ’water action’ sequence begins. A time when I finally felt like something truly exciting to watch was actually happening. Before this point, I was feeling disappointed and a tad annoyed. I lie. I was more than a tad annoyed by the seemingly unexciting musical numbers and Anna’s ability to jump to conclusions when Kristoff was trying to ask her ‘the question.’

There are a few somewhat pleasant moments, plus moving moments, especially regarding Elsa and Anna’s sisterly relationship. Yet some of these scenes ended up feeling a little forced.

It’s after the one-hour mark that Frozen 2 becomes fun. Unsurprising, since my two favourite moments happen after the one-hour mark. One of them was the one musical moment that grabbed my attention in a good way, at precisely one minute into Iduna’s Scarf.

Disney and musical fans will have the best time with this. I’m only one of those things. I therefore find myself glad that Elsa and Iduna’s Scarf were there to get me through.

Watch it if you’re curious.

FROZEN 2 (2019): New Official Trailer Starring Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Sterling K. Brown…

In Frozen 2, the goal is for Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf is to learn the truth about an ancient mystery of their kingdom. And so begins an adventure far in the forest.

Directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, key cast includes Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Sterling K. Brown.

I think I’ve seen Frozen (2013) but there’s a chance I only think I have because so many people talked about it a lot post release.

What I know for sure is that this trailer has me curious about the idea that Elsa may have to ‘save the world.’ On second thought, that probably sounds too super hero-ish, so chances are I’m completely wrong.

One more thing, I really like the vocals in this trailer. The results would be completely unrecordable, for sure; yet I wouldn’t mind trying to sing the featured song while backed by what sounds like a fantastic orchestra. Step aside Florence Foster Jenkins (2016)!

Evan Rachel Wood and Jonathan Groff also star.

Frozen 2 Release Dates: November 22nd, 2019 (US & UK)…

Kristen Bell, Evan Rachel Wood and Jonathan Groff are back for the Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee-directed sequel to Disney’s Frozen (2013).

This time, an adventure awaits Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf as they go far in the forest to learn the truth about an ancient mystery of their kingdom.

I actually think I’d forgotten how much I appreciated the animation style of the first Frozen movie. The adventure and story will likely be engaging. However, it’s these visuals I’m most excited about.

Sterling K. Brown and Josh Gad also star.
