Johny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson and Joel Edgerton are the stars of Black Mass, the film that has brought me my favourite trailer of the year… so far.
Watch it and understand.
I strongly hope that the finished product is as amazing as this brilliant trailer edit suggests.
Like a great film, great trailers are not easy to make.
Every Secret Thing (2014), Elizabeth Banks
Elizabeth Banks, Diane Lane and Dakota Fanning are the stars of the latest brilliant trailer. It’s so interesting that I’m more than ready to watch the movie right this minute!
See for yourself…
It’s good thanks to the editing, music atmosphere, stars and the masterful tease.
The last time I saw Ryan Reynolds in a film was The Proposal (2009). It wasn’t my favourite and kind of kept me away from future Reynolds movies. Having now watched The Voices (2014), I can confirm that my attitude has changed.
The Voices is a crime/comedy film directed by Marjane Satrapi and stars Reynolds as Jerry – a sinister/very unbalanced individual who somehow manages to remain likeable.
You’ll probably find yourself not quite rooting for him, as such, on account of the murdering. However, empathy will kick in since he’s definitely ‘not well’.
The Voices (2014): Jacki Weaver
The way the director/cinematographer present the world of Jerry, how he sees things as opposed to actual reality is a particular highlight.
Watch it for a pleasantly different turn from Reynolds and good performances from Jacki Weaver, Anna Kendrick and Gemma Aterton. I was also glad to see great character actor Sam Spruell’s name on the cast list.
Starring two spectacular screen talents in the shape of the late James Gandolfini and British actor Tom Hardy; The Drop is an expertly executed film.
The Drop (2014), James Gandolfini
In the dark and grim criminal underworld of Brooklyn, New York; where director Michaël R. Roskam’s crime/thriller is set; there’s a brilliant stillness. The kind that lets you know that much more is bubbling below the surface than meets the eye.
The Drop features the type of tension that’s perfectly thrilling, and certainly best experienced through a screen rather than in person.
I enjoyed all the performances by every cast member. However, it’s the scenes that feature Hardy, Schoenaerts and Gandolfini that you won’t soon forget. There’s also the notable musical score; a perfect accompaniment for the many highly engaging predicaments in which the characters find themselves.
Watch The Drop for the well-executed story because chances are, you won’t regret it.
Lastly, you may even find yourself wondering if it has ever been easier to like the ‘bad guy.’ Watch it and learn.
The trailer for Child 44 is the reason I was yelping with uncontrollable joy today.
Deservedly, there’s been some talk about the authenticity of the Russian accents. As for me, I’m hoping for the best and I’m happy to watch the talented cast, including Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Vincent Cassel and Noomi Rapace do their thing.
I can’t wait to see this very interesting story unfold.
